New 4k Monitor and GTX 1080, Displayport or HDMI?

While waiting for my LG 27UD68P-B 27" FreeSync IPS LED 4k monitor and EVGA GTX 1080 FTW, I'm trying to determine which cable I need. The card has 1 x HDMI 2.0b,3 x DisplayPort 1.4, and 1 x Dual-Link DVI-D. The monitor has 2 x HDMI 2.0 and 1 x DisplayPort 1.2.

In researching, I'm getting conflicting points of view. I'm obviously looking for the very best this combination will provide. Which would be the better way to go? Thank you in advance.

Displayport is the better tech, and is required for most freesync (some are over HDMI as well though) and required for GSync.

However since you won't be using either, for that monitor it won't matter and you can use whichever you want. The monitor will likely come with both cables (both my Acer's did).

I have that monitor, it comes with HDMI and DP cables and both can do 4K 60Hz.

I'm using DP 1.2 from integrated Intel graphics, and it works fine except windows get moved to my secondary monitor when they go to sleep. Something about DP monitors appearing to be disconnected when they sleep. (HDMI is only 1.4 on my system, so I can't use that)

So try both, but I'd probably use HDMI 2.0 if I had the choice.

Yes, I used the displayport cable the monitor came with. Works fine. Might try the HDMI cable for the hell of it. Have yet to dive into the monitor's menu. Looks pretty sweet so far though.
