They'll always concentrate first on getting everything working properly at stock before moving on to tweak for oc.
Are you cooling the nb at all as that seems to run v. hot when overclocked on the 650i mobos?

is there a reason why bios 12 file names does not end it .BIN

ok just flashed number 12

first impressions- it sucks, my current overclock of 3.4ghz doesnt work any more at all, it wont even post had to reset cmos,

new memory timings option called tRFC and can be set between 1-255, on auto it is set at 26

also in bios it says the bios version is 00, it should say 12, stock bios said 10

I'm building a (mostly) new system and just purchased this board as part of a Fry's deal (MB & E6420 for $259 AR.) I'm planning to do a mild OC (maybe 2.5 GHz) but nothing bleeding edge.

What BIOS I should use? I've read that one of the modded BIOS has killed a couple of boards, so that makes me a bit nervous.

Any suggestions?

If needed, here is my proposed system:

Abit FP-IN9 SLI * E6420 * 2 GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 4-4-4-12
MSI NX7300GS * Maxtor 250GB * Creative Audigy 2
Generic DVD & Floppy drives
ZeroTherm BF90 * Chakra Mid-Tower w/ 2 120mm Fans

Any help would be appreciated

Bests?

I've got everything in now and am starting to assemble the system. From what I've read, here's my plan.

1) With just the floppy, 1 stick of RAM and an old PCI video card (in the upper slot) installed, boot the system into BIOS, adjust the VDIMM to 2.2v to match the RAM spec's. Save and reboot.

2) Using the floppy method, flash the BIOS to Beta 1.3. Power down, Clear CMOS jumper & replace, add 2nd stick of RAM, remove PCI video and install the rest of the componets.

3) Restart and hope everthing works!

Sound right? Suggestions?

Beta 1.4 seems to be running okay. I test stable @ 350 FSB but haven't been able to hit 375. I was playing with it last night and was still having problems @ 362.5. I'll try again tonight.

Honestly, they are a bit mixed.

I like the bling-bling factor and it is a (fairly) well designed board. I don't like the problems it has with overclocking. I'm hoping that improved BIOS will fix most of the problems. But you'd still have the no previous BIOS fall-back issue.

I haven't SLI'd but I haven't read anything bad from those that do. (Other than it's 2x8, not 2x16 channels.) It's gonna be a while before I can afford another 8800GTS, but I look forward to trying it.

I'd like to say it's a great board, but not being stable at 375 FSB (when I know the CPU & RAM are capable of it) just puts it into the realm of a okay-to-good board. Personally, if the board could handle it, I would lower my multiplier and run my CPU @ 2.975 GHz with a 425 FSB.

If you're going to be using stock speeds, or doing mild O/C'ing , this board works well and remains stable. However, if you're looking at getting some decent O/C numbers, this board isn't ready for it yet. And if the BIOS people don't get it together, it may never be.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

From the Hexus site, 1.3 seems to be able to O/C faster than 1.4. But 1.4 also fixes the 1T memory timing issue. I may go back to 1.3 to see if I can do 400+ FSB, but I'll miss the 1T.

Maybe 1.5, whenever it shows up, will be the mythical "perfect" BIOS for this board?
