For the cash you spend on hard drives you could get a 939/SLi mobo and cpu setup...
I'd get a NEC 3520a or Lite-on SOHW-1633s instead of the sony.

And then I would have no hard drives..... But i will look into the burners.

I would go socket 754 on a budget system, which doesn't seem to be your case. Why not go socket 939 & nf4, you'll be much more flexible in the future.

Two reasons
-He has the AGP version of the 6800gt, and I only go with 939 if he had the pci-x version
-754 won't die out anytime soon, so I will be able to upgrade it with a newer processor.

Well... that wasn't the wisest of choice, but he could always sell it and get a PCIe version.

It was a gift, plus the computer it resides in now only has agp, which by the time he started playing newere games he realized that he needed an update

Yeah DFI NF3 and 3400+ works fine. Apparently this CPU (2.4Ghz) is the fastest you can get in this price range without going up to 3700 (754), 3800/4000, or the FX's. Seems like a good deal to me.

The 3700 was nearly double the price, for performacnce that was going to be minimal, anyways, that's what overclocking is for.

ok here is wut i have to say,,,,,,first of all ur spending a great deal of money so i highly suggets the following,,

switch to s939, get the MSN NEO 2 with a 3200+ / 3500++,, also get rid fo that case, it's looks decent, buh not worst the money,,,,,,,also do you relay need a raptor, honestly, u cant afford to wait 0.154 s to open a file lol....spend ur money wisely, get a maxtor with 16mb buffer iff u want faster,,,,,

buh my main recommendation is gogin s939, futureproof, and will be supported well into last 2006

What's the point of a 939 with a slower processor(or buy the more expensive 3500+ for unnoticeable speed)? AMD isn't planning on dropping the 754 socket anytime soon... I don't see the advantage in spending more $$ on 939 unless someone has profound reasons...

AMD is dropping socket 754 sooner than you think. By the time they do, there should be a decent enough processor out for him to skip the 939 generation and wait though.

754 is dead. and 939skt has nothing to do with wether a motherboard will support agp or pci-e. the motherboad is your concern if your worried about agp vs. pci-e. get a 939 its well worth it with a MSI, Asus, or even Epox board, but it doesn't look like your on a budget so i'd go with MSI if your friend has any intent to OC or Asus if you just want a quality, reliable board that will give him the performance he'll want.

lose the raptor

these guys are right in their opinions, unless you wanna just go ahead and do it your way then thats up to you.... we're just here to help and give suggestions.

It's not like I'm trying to be stuck up lick you're implying...all of the builds that Ive done have been Socket A, so I was lookng for a reason to switch from 754 to 939. The reason why I mentioned agp was because no 754 offer pci-x.

Ok, I'm sort of convinced, a 3200+ Retail with a choice of motherboards:
MSI "K8T NEO2-F"

SOLTEK "SL-K8TPro-939"

ABIT "AV8"

ABIT "AV8" K8T800 Pro
Has anyone had any luck with the 939 solteks?? I don't plan to overclock that much.

edit: I just checked, all but the about are out of stock...

there is no DFI board out there with a 939skt and AGP support. They are all PCI-e.

Andypress, i wasnt implying your stuck up... i was just saying that so you don't take it the wrong way when i replied

Be happy get your socket 754 platform because of a video card your not likely to keep more than 6 months if your enough of a gamer to spend all that cash on a 6800 to begin with.
