***New*** Antec TX Case

Antec has rececntly released a new line of cases called the Performance TX line.

What do you guys think of them? They come bundled with the new ATX2.0 (24-pin, for you nforce4'ers) TruePower 2.0 PSUs.

I don't have any first hand experience with them, but looking at it right off the bat:
-What hapepend to the door on their smaller cases? I'm at least glad it's not 'flat' in the front.
-Price. Newegg's price is pretty high, especially for the fulltower cases.
-ONE fan? I mean for a $140 (price on NewEgg) fulltower case - no way.

Anyone have any experience with these cases?
Anyone from ANTEC know if they'll continue the SLK line?

I just hope that they'll come out with some MidTower cases that have these PSUs.
I'm not really a big fan of small cases (no real pun intended...)

Probably a typo - Newegg doesn't even have the correct picture if you look at Antec's site.

having an intake fan for your video card is lame. all it's good for is another hole for sound to escape the case from.

Well, i'll let you know when/if mine gets here. I ordered the 640B from securemart for $95 shipped. For some reason they were $75 + $20 shipping, they're at $95 + shipping now, in line with everyone else.

I was going to order a sonata, but i had to put it off a day or two and the TXs came out. I like the looks of it, and the newer PSU is a plus.

Built my pc on the tx640b last week. It may not be a mid tower, but its bigger than the compaq and ibm i had. I dont think i'd want it much bigger. Case temps from bios and nvidia monitor are 19-20 cpu and 33 for the system. Those go up to ~26 and 37 while playing a game. Cant comment on quietness, i've got the fan on high. The side duct passes a lot of air, but its not directly ober the cpu, even when moved all the way. Looks like the cpu location on my motherboard is a little different. The removable bays made everything go quickly.

I guess a door would be nice. The dvd rom i had is slightly off color, but its not bad. The flash makes it look a lot worse than it is. Overall i'm pretty happy with it.

You have the CPU and System temperatures switched. It would HAVE to be 19-20 for the case and 33 for the CPU. Even at that, that is very very cold for an air cooled system. What is your houses ambient temp.

Doesnt matter. Your system temp/ambient temp can NEVER be lower than an air cooled CPU temp. THeoretically they can never be equal either because the CPU is always (unless turned off) generating heat.

I'm not disputing that the CPU temp can't be below ambient, but CnQ combined with a board lowballing temps can easily yield those temps.

The TP 2 480 PSU is extremely quiet since it never runs over 800rpm in my system. Temps are 32C for CPU, 27C for system, 30C for PWMIC at idle. Running the 120mm TriCool fan at medium setting and 2 80mm Coolermaster silent fans in front for intake. Using a Thermaltake Silent Boost on an A64 3200, DFI LP 250GB MB(9/14 bios), 1 GB PDP PC3200, BFG 6800GT, 3 HD and a DVD/CDRW drive. Temp on CPU never goes over 38C after a couple hours of gaming.

I was wondering about that actually, but i never thought about it too hard apparently. Just reading off what the programs told me. Dont know why its messed up.

The air in my room is usually 70-75.

Edit: Switching the temps to F gives 66-68 and 93
Edit2: BIOS reads higher, 22-23 and 34

Maybe its not reading a cpu temp at all?

Doesn't look like the hard drives are cooled here. 7200rpm drives can get pretty hot too - and when they're cramped together like that, they'll easily exceed 60C. I like the designs that have a 120mm fan blowing right over the drive cage in the front.

I'm with Zepper. The SX antecs are really good cases, these changes just make them better.

The configuration of the side grilles, sirspotti, is to conform to Intel specs...

I've always felt that I could build quieter systems i cases with open airways, like the SX'es, because they allow for very wimpy case fans. Choose the other bits with care, and it's naturally quiet... trying to contain noise, once created, is like caging a 600 lb gorilla with a flyswatter...

I've got an Antec case of some kind and that 80mm fan at the front of the cage easily keeps two Seagates at about 24C.

As for the cases coming without fans, I'd just as soon order my own.
