Try going back in time to WWII. All those night boming raids on Germany killed civilians, too. War sucks, it is part of the reality of the situation, but the situation has improved greatly in the last 60 years due to improved technology.

They have to be some kind of exploding round. All you hear is a little rattatatat and some explosions. Looks to be VERY effective.

Apaches are 30mm cannon rounds--cannon rounds can have a variety of stuff within them, including explosives and incendiary stuff. Very versatile weapon, the AC-130s are being outfitted with them, the 40mm Bofors is nearly 60 years old!

The gun on an Apache fires 30mm explosive rounds if memory serves. I think each round carries roughly half the explosive found in a normal fragmentation grenade.

How far away are those Apaches we seen in these videos? Seem pretty close to me.

Hard to say, the view through the targeting sports magnification of several magnitudes of course, and Apaches were designed to have a low noise output. Not whisper quiet of course, but a good deal better than the wup wup wup of Hueys and such. That attack was up on a mountain, so winds were likely also covering the sounds of the rotors and turbines. I'd say that Apache was within 1/2 mile most of the time, much closer on attack runs.

Good riddance, Taliban deserve no less.
