just swung by asus's website and notice their new notebook lineup.
this one is nice and compact @3.5 lbs and 12.1in screen.
made of magnesium alloy.

I couldn't find any reference to m5n on their website.. are you talking about the s5n? This notebook seems to use a 1.8 in hd.. that's not standard, right?

looks nice but the battery life is ridiculously short:

I'd rather get something tiny bit bigger (3.6lbs vs this laptops 3.06lbs), ie X31 that runs in real life 4-5 hrs (calimed 6 hrs).

I have an X31 adn teh asus is defintly a much better looking laptop. It seems to get under the 3lbs mark you have to sacraface a lot of battery life, ala the asus and the new IBM X40. Interesting they use micro-sodimms, i've never heard of them before.

Lots of ppl picked up the moderlty equiped X31 for $999.

hmmm it says dothan compatable, so does that mean the cpu is socketed or that they will offer it integrated onto the MB in the future? Most small laptops X31, Dell X300 have them soldered onto the MB
