Dungeon siege no longer displays correctly for me and with some tweaking, I can get it to run but @ about half the speed it used to run with the 3.0 catalysts...

Wow I'm happy now The new drivers got rid of that silly checkerboard pattern I had been seeing when most of my games started. But even better then that the little scan line that would start at the bottom of the screen and slowly rise is gone! I had been going nuts thinking some magnetic source was causing this.

Only played a little BF1942 last night, but it seemed to be running smoother at 1024x768, 4xAA, 8xAF after I installed these.

Yeah, I saw a definite improvement in my screen refresh also. My problem was little jaggies would form on my LCD monitor now and then when I was opening and closing my browser or multiple folders. Now, no problems at all. There must have been a refresh rate fix in there somewhere.

chizow you use system restore? Its better to uninstall video card drivers by add/remove programs then getting rid of everything it left. Then install new drivers.

How do you find the legibility of the text during the game with yoru current settings?

I did that, and used a registry tweak etc. and deleted all ATI files. Installed 3.1 and no CP. Reversed it back to 3.0 and still no CP. So I did a system restore back to right before I messed with 3.1 and all was well again.

Bottom-line is ATI still needs to work on their driver delivery/removal package.

10127 marks with the 3.1 drivers and 3DMark2001 SE.

Specs:
Shuttle SB51G
Pentium4 1.8a
Radeon 9500 Pro
512MB Kingston PC2700
80GB Maxtor 7200rpm
80GB IBM 7200rpm

BTW - My GeForce4 Ti 4200 w/ 128MB was only pulling 9476.

chizow do you leave system restore on because you know it does slow down gaming and everything?

This man speaks the truth. Funny thing, I used to reformat harddisks because of Windows, now because of vid-card drivers. :Q

Yep, but the downtime required for unnecessary Windows installations is a less palatable solution than taking a small hit to performance. I doubt I'd notice any difference in game performance and a few hundred 3dmarks don't mean a whole lot to me.

There's only a few instances I feel a Windows install is necessary and justified:

1) System platform upgrade: new mobo/chipset.

2) Corrupted Windows installation or Virus attack.

3) New HDD as the boot/system drive

4) Major video card upgrades (ATI to nVidia or vice versa)

5) Sound Blaster Live! installation/removal.

Installing Windows as a result of a driver "upgrade" doesn't fall into any of those categories

They're a bit smoother in Unreal 2 and UT2003 and they fix a few bugs I've had, but I'm not seeing any of the alleged speed increases. They are definitely better than the 3.0s though.

I just got BF1942 the other day and decided to run it with AA and AF for the first time after reading spidey's post and the text is messed up on my computer too. Is it problem with these drivers or with the way the card implements AA and AF?

Instead of leaving it on all the time why not just make a restore point before you do something major to your system?

A lot of Direct3D games exhibit text problems when anisotropic filtering is enabled, regardless of the manufacturer. This is a side-effect of the filtering combined with the way certain Direct3D games display text.

In the case of ATi, fixing it is usually achieved by toggling the value of the alternate pixel centre setting in the driver control panel.

Running 3.1s on The Moobox in my signature (Windows2000/Radeon8500). I noticed a pretty significant boost in performance in Counter-Strike with Quality 2x FSAA. FSAA also seems to run pretty good in Neverwinter Nights, but I didn't try it with my old drivers.

Yes, go into display properties, settings tab, advanced button, Direct3D tab, compatibility settings button; & it's the last option on the
page.

Edit
Managed to fix the illegible text for me another way
For the Direct3D Anisotropic Filtering & Smoothvision settings, set them both to application preference; and disable alternate pixel centre setting.

I can't see how you notice any boost in Counter Strike...it's engine is way old man
