Me want. This looks awesome. HL1 is quite possibly the best PC game in history and this will bring the graphics up to date.

It's an FPS.

Formula for a "successful" FPS? Same graphics as the last four + contrived storyline that doesn't make sense + grenade launcher = $$$ . There's NO actual content difference between the games. They're all the same. I don't care what franchise you're talking about...they're all the same. Hell, even Hellgate: London was the same.

I really wish someone would come up with something new. The same old shit time and time again got old in 2000.

You really don't know what you are talking about, do you? HL was one of the first FPSs that did have an intense story line and revolutionary graphics (for 1998). Sounds like you just don't like FPS games, which is fine, but that's no reason to crap on the genre.

What he is saying is technically true. How old is HL2??? 4 years. Every game has been the same graphics slightly updated with the ongoing storyline. I'm not trying to defend him but what he is saying is 100% true. I'm going to get Black Mesa because I'm a Valve/HalfLife nut and will get pretty much anything associated with them. This is HL1 with HL2 graphics. Nothing revolutionary but it sure will be fun as hell to play.

Yur doing better than me.
I keep getting "server has an internal error".

AT effect?

From the 550 people who have viewed this thread over the past 7.5 hours? Hardly. I don't think there is such a thing as an AT effect anymore.

What he is saying is 80% true, not 100%. I won't disagree than the genre is a lot of the same old crap but what genre isn't? Music, movies, games...take your pick. HL was one of the few that did change things and his implied inclusion of it with the majority of crap out there was incorrect.

I think I've made this point before but it needs stating again:
I'd much rather play an old good game over again as opposed to all the new crap we've seen the past few years.

If they ever finish that Deus Ex redux project I may wet myself.

I finished HL1 and loved the game. I played through it several times and would LOVE a source version

Been waiting......and waiting....and waiting, for years. Awesome trailer.

Anyone here have any inside info on a possible release date?

I've visited their (many) Forums for years and you're not allowed to ask, lol.

HL1 is still my all-time favorite single player game, replaying it (again) with the Source engine should be special.

Not to mention the seriously dated visuals, but that's not a big deal if the game is fun. From the video, this game looks like nothing more than HL2 gameplay in a different set of levels.

Imo, Halflife 1 had better gameplay than halflife 2. More creative/original, it at least tried to do things differently throughout the game (sneaking areas, puzzle areas, run away areas, use of external utilities, platforming areas). Halflife 2 was straight run and gun with a physics gun.

However, I already replayed halflife many times. At the very least, I've played it software rendered, 3d rendered, with the blue shift hd pack, and halflife source, and I've lost track of how many times I've replayed any of those variants.
I don't think I've replayed through all of halflife 2 even once.

Play through HL2 once. It takes a few hours. It's pretty short.

How is this different than Half-life: Source? Wasn't that HL rendered in the Source engine?

No, HL:Source was a touch up to the old game improving lighting and water mostly. Black Mesa is a total conversion of HL to the Source engine.

I've beaten halflife 2, I meant that I don't think I've ever beaten it more than once.

Halflife Source was a straight up port to the source engine. So it was less glitchy in some ways (more so in others), had some physics, shiny water, and new lighting effects. However, none of the assets were updated to halflife 2 quality like this does.

Like a lot of people, I can't wait to play HL1 through again with better graphics. I remember buying the game when I was a freshman in HS. I think HL1 was a lot better than HL2 though, something about fighting Marines made me say "Oh crap!" a lot lol.

I will download this for sure. Are they going to allow people that have HL through Steam downlod this for free?

It would be awesome if they did the same thing with the original Team Fortress

I actually like HL2 more, though I LOVED them both. Both games can be beaten in ~3 hours, so length is irrelevant.

Yeah Half Life 1 was so much better than Half Life 2. I just finished Opposing Force for the first time and it was overall much more fun than HL2 or any of it's episodes. I'm just starting Blue Shift.

Black Mesa and Xen are far better than those Eastern European cities in Half Life 2. You really got a feel for the chaos in Black Mesa with the Marines and Black Ops and aliens all fighting a doomed battle. In fact the gameplay just feels much more fast paced and exciting.

I thought the HL series sucked after playing HL2 since it was my first HL game but it's strange how Valve got so much right and then screwed it up during HL2.

Ugh, Xen was god awful. I've beaten the game twice, but I've gotten to Xen probably a dozen times. I just stop when I get there because it's such garbage.
