I hope it offers some new gameplay this time around. HL2 and it's successors have been played exactly the same for years now. It is long past boring. Not to mention the seriously dated visuals, but that's not a big deal if the game is fun. From the video, this game looks like nothing more than HL2 gameplay in a different set of levels.

???

It looks like HL1 with stunning new graphics. I like it :^)

Hell yes! Not like the original needed a makover but I aint complaning!

Anyone here have any inside info on a possible release date?

I've visited their (many) Forums for years and you're not allowed to ask, lol.

HL1 is still my all-time favorite single player game, replaying it (again) with the Source engine should be special.

I heard June, but just what I read somewhere so just kind of a rumor

"We WILL release this year! Chill out dudes & dudettes!"

It's a royal bitch to make a mod comprised of a team that's not getting paid to do it...

They're all the same. I don't care what franchise you're talking about...they're all the same. Hell, even Hellgate: London was the same.

I really wish someone would come up with something new. The same old shit time and time again got old in 2000.

Dude... WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! I keep hearing this over and over about Valve games. "Seriously dated Visuals" - what are you smoking man? The visuals are gorgeous and can easily rival many of today's games. And did I mention that Valve's engine is one of the best out there, easily scaling to shitty old PC's while managing to still look very good? People are still playing games based on Valve's engine, all these years after it's release. That will NOT be the case with Crysis for example, despite it's "ultra modern gfx"...

HL2 is anything but boring! In fact there are not too many FPS games out there that can match HL2's gameplay. EP1 was indeed not all that good, but it was fine. EP2 on the other hand was nice, but short.

If anything, I "might" agree that HL2 was maybe a little lacking on content when compared to HL1, but that's me nitpicking...

Imo, Halflife 1 had better gameplay than halflife 2. More creative/original, it at least tried to do things differently throughout the game (sneaking areas, puzzle areas, run away areas, use of external utilities, platforming areas). Halflife 2 was straight run and gun with a physics gun.

However, I already replayed halflife many times. At the very least, I've played it software rendered, 3d rendered, with the blue shift hd pack, and halflife source, and I've lost track of how many times I've replayed any of those variants.
I don't think I've replayed through all of halflife 2 even once.

I agree completely :^)

Yes. I would gladly replay HL1 again. I've lost count how many times I've done so in the past. Replaying HL2... don't really feel like it.

I still haven't played EP2 I own it, but I'm waiting for EP3 to be released. When that happens, I'm going to play them all in a row for continuity. EP1 saved the HL franchise for me. After playing HL2 I had given up on the series, I really didn't like it much at all. I then scored a free copy of EP1, and gave serious consideration to giving it away. I said screw it, I'll give it a play through, and I enjoyed it much more than HL2.

I guess we'll see about EP2 & 3. Even if they suck, I have too much time invested in the series at this point. I need to play them through to see it to the end :^D

Half Life 1 was my first FPS love. I played it so much.

With that said, I enjoyed HL2 a LOT more. Looks like nostalgia is a bit blinding in here.

Not really. I first played HL1 after it's prime. The gfx were fairly dated when I got to it. It took me about an hour to get sucked into the game play, and I was hooked. HL2 was lackluster in comparison. It had the shadow of HL1, but just wasn't as good.

I have never played HL1. It came out just after I went to College, and had no money to buy a computer, let a lone a game, plus I had no time to play it anyway. I had more fun in my downtime drinking and partying back then. But, downtime became scarce the last few years in school.

My roommate Freshman Year did buy a new computer and had the game, but I only played it for like 5 minutes. I tried playing it when I bought HL2, since it was included in the game, but I couldn't get into it with the very dated 3D graphics. It is funny how I don't mind playing old 2D sprite games over again, and think nothing of them, but early 3D games just grate me when playing them. (Early 2D sprite games grate me too though, like Space Quest 2 is just too blocky for me to play it through. CGA graphics weren't the greatest thing in the world.)

I hope this project gets released though, as I would love to play through the original game for the first time with enhanced Graphics. I wouldn't mind if the graphics look a little dated, as long as they are much better than the original "slightly better than Quake" graphics of the first game.

I don't really understand all the taking sides between HL1 and the HL2 series. IMO, they were/are both unique and interesting in their time. HL1 raised the bar for plot development in an FPS, HL2 continued this and due to advancements in technology was able to use graphics to establish a mood and physics to introduce us to the gravity gun. Portal and L4D are great as well, and even though I don't play TF2 I can still recognize that they did a top notch job on it. Valve is one of those companies that just continues to impress me, and I can't think of a single weak title in their lineup.

IMO, it looks like Black Mesa will be a worthy remake of an already great game, so I'm excited about it.

Looks like Half Life meets fear. I have enjoyed all the HL games thus far. Of course, this doesn't hold a candle to crysis graphically.

Maybe now I'll finally be able to finish HL1. I've tried a few times and actually got fairly far but it just pisses me off too much.

so all they're doing is remaking HL1 with the old HL2 source engine? I'll pass. HL1 was great, but unless they're genuinely making something new, updating the graphics won't make the game better or worth playing again. I've already played it several time, enjoyed it and that was that. same thing with HL2 and episode 1 and two. I'm waiting for episode 3 which valve aren't releasing. when or more correctly if they'll ever release it is another matter...

WTF, this is a MOD. But ok, go ahead a whine about people making free content for you...

I remember playing HL1 with CS weapons. That was pretty fun. They should have remade Opposing Force.
