I know these are unpaid volunteers making this game, but good lord its taking a long time. This thing was announced shortly after the original HL2 came out, which came out, what, 2004?

I'll definitely be on board playing it if it ever does release though.

Can't hope for the best when modder's are involved. I rather spend my spare time doing something I get paid for myself.

I like mucking around with code for the lulz. Not enough to put out a decent mod or such, but I can understand where they get it from.

Considering how Source has been pretty significantly updated over the years I wouldn't be surprised if the team took time to update the mod to match

You don't have any hobbies at all? I like to do all kinds of things in my free time that I could take up as a job if I really wanted to go at it full time, but being forced to do the same hobbies in a work environment ruins the fun a lot of the time.

The mod is vaporware. Like most mismanaged mods, I doubt it will ever see the light of day.

That's the difference between mods like Mechwarrior Living Legends and Black Mesa. Granted, one is a single player game but still. BMS has been working for almost 8 years and MWLL has worked for 2 and they have a beta out. Let's not forget Cryengine is also much harder to make mods with.

Even a demo would have been nice, just releasing a few completed levels. Without it, interest will have dried up by the time its released.

This. I always laugh when a mod like this is announced. I've been burned too many times in the past, following exciting looking mods which wind up in oblivion.

I know what you mean. I was super excited to play this mod.... 3 years ago. Now I'll definitely play it if it comes out, but I'm not holding my breath.

Some of you guys forget that this mod is being made by small team of hobbyist and not some large big budget development company. Give them some time, they have no deadline and if a few more months, or years for that matter, are need i'm absolutely fine with that. IMO, that means they actually do care about the end result and chances are it will at least be decent. Plus, it's free!

Theres a difference between a small team of hobbyists that gets their work out in a reasonable timespan and is managed well and that keeps their community informed, and one that cryptically pretends to be working on a mod for 8 years.

What is going on here is the modding community equivalent of a Duke Nukem Forever.

If they were getting paid for their work then i'd agree with you, however they aren't so the assumption that they should adhere to some sort of made up guidelines is absurd.

Have you ever worked on a free mod? If you have then you'd realize how hard it is to put a team together, keep them motivated enough to keep up with their duties, meet any sort of deadlines, let alone actually completely finish a project.

So what do you guys think will get released first?

- Black Mesa
- Half Life 2: Episode 3
- Duke Nukem Forever 2

We don't forget that. But we also don't bother supporting mods which in all likelihood will never be released. I've been down that road in the past.

Yes, that's exactly the kind of attitude to take when a group of people give up lots and lots of their time to bring you something cool for FREE..

I actually like HL2 more, though I LOVED them both. Both games can be beaten in ~3 hours, so length is irrelevant.

There is no way HL1 can be beaten in ~3 hours...unless you cheat like a dog.
