After months of speculation, Bugatti has finally pulled the wraps off its new four-door supercar concept just ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show at an event for past customers and Bugatti-intenders. Up to this point, we've been referring to the French uber-sedan as the Bordeaux, but it seems the actual car's moniker will be Galibier ? the name of a difficult Alpine pass along the Tour de France.

One of the Galibier's most striking features is undoubtedly its two-tone outer shell, which is comprised of both polished aluminum for the doors and front fenders and a unique dark blue carbon fiber weave that shines through when illuminated. We also note a prominent center spine that recalls past Bugattis like the Type 35 and the classically beautiful Type 57.

Powering the Galibier concept will be a version of Bugatti's ridiculously powerful eight-liter W16 powerplant. Unlike the mill propelling the Veyron to ludicrous speed, this version is mounted up front and is capable of running on ethanol fuel, which may or may not allow the automaker to squeeze a few more ponies out of the engine... not that it needs it, of course.

Current reports peg the Galibier's top speed at 217 miles per hour (350 kilometers per hour), which, while slower than the Veyron's epic terminal velocity, is certainly nothing to sneeze at. Check out our gallery of high-res images below.

I love the front end and I have mixed feelings about the rear. But it has the Veyron powertrain

I don't like the "hatchback" look, and I don't like what appears to be a DIN aftermarket stereo with flip up DVD screen in the dash.

It looks like a sedan. And it looks pretty fuckin hot. There's a sedan I wouldn't throw out of the driveway.

Not a fan of Bugatti's styling, at least not their current trend, and this certainly is no exception. I'll save the $500,000 I never had and not buy one (just taking a guess at the price since I didn't see it listed).

Something about the first shot (front quarter) reminds me of the Volt concept. Kind of like if a Veyron and a Volt crashed together, and miraculously emerged as one car. What would they call that... a Voltron?

It looks really ugly to me, including the interior. I really like the wood grain / texture they use, but it looks over done. The DVD / navigation looks completely out of place amongst the "retro luxury" look. The interior roof looks pretty cool, though.

I believe the exterior is ugly for the sake of being ugly to differentiate itself from other luxury marques. VW is having some serious problems with the super luxury design teams, the new Bentley's front end is also a mess.

The exterior of this car is the single worst looking car I have seen in a long time. I'm talking Pontiac Aztek, Fiat Multipla and SsangYong Rodius levels of ugly.

Why? It's just so gaudy and out there. There is no attempt at grace, no swoopy bodywork, no elegant lines,. The Veyron was by no means a pretty car, and it looks like Bugatti did what Porsche did with their 4 door and just tried too hard to create a family resemblance. The only difference is the Panamera was based on a pretty car and thus, though still ugly, didnt look ugly enough to make babies cry.

You gotta handle it to VAG though, they really got their market down. They know that their major buyers are new money Moscowites and oil czars in Dubai with more cash than taste. The people that bought you this, this, and this are the type of people that are going to buy cars with 8 chrome exhaust pipes and that kind of exterior.

VAG is doing more damage to the classic Bugatti name than anyone could ever have imagined.

Super Luxury 4 door done right

Probably closer to the Veyron since it carries over the same power train. $1.5m+

While I don't think the styling is perfect, I think it says exactly what the designers meant for it to say. It's not an obnoxious hyper car that screams at you when you look at it. It does speak, but it does so softly, and it says "I'm better than you." It is the culmination of design, engineering, and refinement. It's design is purposeful and necessary (love it or hate it, it seems like a it was meant to have a low cd for stability at speed), it's drivetrain is unlike anything ever before placed in a luxurious car, and I'm sure it is as quiet at 175mph as most of our cars are at 60mph. It is the automotive equivalent of a "fuck you" to all the other vehicle manufacturers out there, and it will likely be the center of many rich individuals car collections.

Fair enough. At first I thought you're Alain de Cadenet and was reading your post as if he was saying it, but then you tossed in the vulgarity.

Your opinions are your opinions so I have no arguments with that, but the Veyron has a .cd of 0.41 in normal mode and .36 in top speed, all ducts closed, lowered to the ground mode, which is actually very, very bad for anything engineered after the advent of modern computers.

To put that in perspective, 0.41 is the same as a 1982 Volvo 740, 0.37 is the .cd of a Volkswagen Tiguan SUV.

Now you can argue that the high .cd is for extra downforce, but only old cars required high .cd aerodynamic aids for downforce (see XJ220 at 0.37 or F50 at 0.37), but well designed, modern cars with CAD and CFD can design cars with positive downforce AND low .cd, as seen in Porsche 997 GT2 (0.32), 2002 Honda NSX (0.30), Nissan GTR (0.27)and even the Mclaren F1 (0.32).

The Bugatti's design was all style over substance. They did add the required aerodynamic aids, but it was designed more to stand out than for true efficiency.

I'll take that as a solid compliment.

If I was an oil rich Arab I'd probably be all over this, but since I'm not, I just can't get excited about it.
