Here's my suggestion. This is everything except windows. It's not the best out of the box processor but it's an overclocking champ, and there's no sound card. However, I think this build is solid and has nice toys.

If you are going to heavily overclock, check out some of the DFI mobos.
No or mild overclocking > ASUS > A8N-E should do you nicely.
About the case, why not choose the Antec Sonata II to save some money? It comes with a pretty decent power supply (450w with decent amps) and should be able to run that system without much problems.
Have fun with your new system.

If you buying a gaming rig, you should focus on:

1. graphics card.
2. ram
3. cpu

1. eVGA 256-P2-N564 Geforce 7900GT KO - $290
2. Patriot 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) - $120
*It's better/same to run at 400mhz ram at 2-3-2-5 timings than 500mhz at 3-3-3-8+ for A64. Buying cheaper ram is a sure way to save $ that can be put towards a better graphics card.
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D - $123
*has good onboard sound so dont need a sound card; excellent for overclocking. You can get other boards by Asus, just dont spend over $130, it's totally uncessary.
Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Piano Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 450Watt SmartPower - $90 - good PSU, nice quiet case
Western Digital 160GB WD1600JDRTL Serial ATA $50 x 2 = $100
*Get 320 gigs vs. 250 and 2 hard drives are better where one is for OS and the other for storage of video + music, etc - only $5 more; or you can raid them if you want.
Same monitor as yours ($175), or if you want a wide screen version of 19 inch Acer - Acer AL1916W - 19" LCD WideScreen - 8ms - 1440 x 900 - $216
If you are doing mostly gaming, get A64 3500+/3700+. If you plan on multitasking without overclocking get X2 3800+, if you plan on overclocking, get Opteron 165.

Hopefully some of these suggestions are useful.

Thanks all, for your informed input. I dont plan on doing much overclocking, maybe 400 mhz per core tops. It is important to me that i get a duel core processor that is AMD.

I mainly plan on playing HL2, Counter Strike source, BF2, ghost reacon advanced warfare (free with vid card), and games similar to them. I've been looking on craigslist and the forum for a 7800 gt for about 200.

Does DVi and contrast ratio really make a big difference in the LCD i choose? And will widescreen mess up the resolution in games? thanks agian for the assistance.

dvi is great. vga is fuzzy.

widescreen is good, assuming the game implements it properly doesn't merely take a 4:3 image and lop off the top and bottom.

i wouldn't bother with a widescreen 19" though. 1400x900 is not much resolution.

That LCD is junk. Its good for a Kitechen TV or a second computer monitor. I can almost garentee it wont display 16.7 million colors. Its probably 6bit instead of 8. bad for gameing. Dont fall into the 'zomg lower responce timz0rz!!' game. Any quality LCD rated 25 and below is not going to ghost in all but the toughest scenes and only very lightly then.
