I think I'll go for i7 6850K instead.
Well I can't recommend that, it's $200+ more than a 6800k with no benefits for you.

And no, intel doesn't give a damn about relative performance.

My 5820k was $310, it's been as low as $290, the 6800k is $360 at microcenter or $380 from newegg on sale. If you miss the sale then it goes back to ~$440. The 6850k is $610.

My 5820k when overclocked can hit 4.5GHz without much trouble, 4.2-4.4GHz is the "expected" OC point most CPUs should be able to manage for the 5820k.
The 6800k and 6850k both OC to roughly 4-4.2GHz, the newer process actually hurts the OC potential slightly, but it's slightly faster IPC, so the difference becomes negligable between the 6800k and 5820k.

TLDR; if you're buying a high end desktop chip, buy the 5820k or 6800k, they are within 5% performance of each other, the 6850k is the same exact CPU, but $200 more and some extra PCI lanes, which you aren't using.
