1. PC will be for 1440p gaming - no overclocking just EXPO

2. £2K -2.5K budget / UK /- going to probably buy parts from a combination of amazon/ scan/ ocuk

I'll list my proposed build below. I see the 7800x3d is essentially still the best for gaming from a value perspective but should I go for the 9900x/ 9950X for a bit more longevity or no point?

If it's just for gaming stick with the 7800X3D. The 12 and 16 core models just aren't worth it.

Build looks good, you may want some extra fans as the case only comes with 2 I believe. 1 front, 1 back.

The 9000 series is getting a power boost in the tdp today or soon depending on the OEM UEFI updates.

X3D though for gaming centric use seems to be the better bet though depending on the game.

I'd skip the Gen 5 drive and go with a 4 instead since you won't see much difference unless you are moving huge data. Games only tax the drive when loading and sitting idle after that.

If you bumped down the PSU to 850 you could save a couple bucks there too.

Cheers, PSUs tend to last me a long time so was even considering a 1200W for the inevitable upgrade in about 7ish years

With the stated budget and config, I wouldn't downgrade the PSU to save a few bucks. I'd actually upgrade it to the RM1000x Shift, or comparable Tier A PSU.

The RM1000e is good too, but there are sporadic reports of coil whine. Its 7 year warranty is perhaps a bit telling (most of the top PSUs now carry a 10 year warranty.) You'll probably be using the 600W power cable.

That's a good indicator in my book as well. If they're not willing to stand behind their gear for 10 years or more I don't want to deal with it. I've been using EVGA units now since 2015 after a RM was DOA. No problems yet with either of them. I switched models though on the last rebuild because the original shot up to $150 vs the new one at $90. Same series and all so, why spend more?

As to the 6000W cable... It's insane to put a space heater inside a PC case just for games IMO. But, it's your prerogative and monthly bill.
