Gaming. It's for my brother and he does some gaming on his PC and is looking to make a big jump from his current piece of crap he's been using for years now.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

$900-1200 tax-in I would say, probably. He's willing to budge a little around that so it's not like it's 100% concrete.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Canada. Looking to get the parts locally from CanadaComputers (www.canadacomputers.com) - most of their prices seem competitive so it shouldn't be a *huge* issue if people could link the parts from THAT website it would be a huge deal.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

i bought most of my parts from canada computers about 2 months ago...basically on that budget you can get something really nice, i spent about 600 tax in and got a cpu, ram, hdd, mobo,,but reused my old case and dvd and smal lstuff like that (extra usb connectors, extra fans)

i can really recommend what i got but i also reused my video card so you will have to add that on there...check my sig and you can find those on their website...BTW they can price match from pcvillage http://www.pcvonline.com/ because they are also locall here on toronto. also tirgerdirect.ca can be price matched cause they also local also

as far as video card, wait for the 9800 nvidia series to come out in about a month and grab that.. i would say :

mobo ~100
ram ~40-80 depending on rebates
HDD~100-120 get the new 32mb cache drive fro mseagate like i have
Video card ~200-300 depending what you want
cse ~ 100
PSU~80

thats 980 + tax on the high side of prices...excellent build possibility here

If you wait for the new video cards ,when they do come out ,NCIX in the past has them the same day ,were ,CanadaComputors might not have them for a week and then only a few and very high prices, But for most other things I wait until what I'am looking for, go's on sale at CanadaComputor.

If he isn't a big power user looking to run the newest game on the highest settings, let him know he can build a pretty nice rig these days for even less than his planned $900. In the US, $700 got me the latest processor and video card and 2 gigs of RAM for Christmas.
