So the only things you're buying are the processor, ram and mobo right now?

Check hot deals for RAM and mobo special - and be flexible on both, model-wise. Seems to me like $179's a lot to spend on a motherboard - should be able to shave $50+ from that and still end up with a quality motherboard.

From what another poster here said, the only difference between the 4200 and the 6300 is the 4300 doesn't have virtualization, if that's a big deal to you. I think the price difference is <$20 right now though.

Maybe wait a month or so for the updated C2Ds to come out - should drop the price on the processor.

Yes, I would get the Gigabyte S3 board. Screw SLI. I'd also get this ram instead...

(quantity of 2 of course)

But I must admit, your current system is very nice. Why even upgrade? Heck, I don't even have anything that nice, and I sell computers for a living.

Just get SOMETHING other than the 680i board and you will save at least $100?

since you aren't getting a new graphics card at the moment and already have an ati card, an sli board might not make sense (especially since r600 will probably be out before you upgrade and you might end up wanting crossfire). On the other hand the 680i boards are among the best/easiest overclockers now so if you are going for really high overclocking (and have good enough cooling to make it work) then sticking with the evga board may make sense.

Never question a man's intent to upgrade!

I wish I could upgrade and I have a similar system.

965P is more stable IMO.

In my experience, you can't get a more stable system than one with an Intel cpu and an Intel chipset.
