Ah, I left an important detail out of my router post- My new trading computer will be wired, it is my basement's media center pc that will not. Currently, that PC is on a wired connection, but obviously trading takes precedence over downloading movies/music/youtube on the 40 inch.

The 22" acers are actually way too big and will take up too much of my room. I think I'll pick up the 3 Viewsonic 19", the real estate is plenty for me. I have a 20" viewsonic, and charts on that look great, even slightly too big.
Also I like the idea of having 2 9600GT's, it gives me flexibility if I ever feel gaming during trading hours, lol. Plus I can afford 2 cards for $160, so that's not an issue.

All in all I've calculated that this will run me $1600, $900 less than my maximum price point.

I will post a full revised list of all the parts I will be getting, either later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks a lot for the help, you guys have saved me a lot of time I would've spent researching and reading and got me relatively caught up to date in only 2 days.

Will I have to put the thermal compound on the cpu myself or does it come with it on already? It's no problem putting it on, it's just a friend of mine who just built a new machine told me his was already on and he just put the heat sink on.

Also, anyone have a recommendation for speakers under $100?

***In reply to jjsole, the volatility is exactly why I'm building this machine now. I trust the charts, technical analysis is my friend, so I have no problem switching my puts to calls at any second of the day if the situation requires. Hell, I've had to sell a lot of puts in the past to cut my losses, being nimble is key in successful trading.

The computer per-se that is needed for this task is Not really important any modern computer with a regular Video that support the number of monitor that you need would do.

What does make a difference is the Network part of the computer.

Get the best Internet connection that is available in your neck of the woods.

I would get a good Router that can take load.

Like this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/...181218&Tpk=zyxel%2b550

Add to it external Giga Swtich like this, - http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817111480

And make sure that the computer has Giga NIC.

P.S. I notice that your Neck in the Wood is Brooklyn.

FIOS from verizon would be the best or TW RR 8Mb/sec. account.

Do not load the Internet connection that you are using for this purpose with VOIP or an any other Piggish thingy that would destabilize the connection.

The necessity for a very efficient computer when daytrading is due to the hundreds of thousands of ticks (trade reports), even million+ ticks depending on the instruments watched, that are received streaming, and the constant read/writes to the drive as they are stored and read comprehensively into charts and resulting refreshes and indicator calculations (not to mention simultaneously reading historical data a user keeps in the software database as well).

Some software packages are much more efficient than others (differing buffer sizes, differing database efficiencies etc.), but even the best ones have a difficult time keeping up with volume in the most liquid instruments these days.

The very most important function taking place!

As long as you've got a reliable brokerage, fast internet connection, real time information streams, "Day Trading" requires very little in the way of advanced PC components.

BTW, Keep us informed as to how and how fast you lost your bank roll.

Well, this isn't something I've just decided to do out of the blue. I currently trade options and I have a 300% profit on the last 2 months.

I've just decided it's time to start trading futures as they are highly leveraged and fantastic to day trade.

But I agree, discipline + patience is most important. But so is some nice equipment.

I'm guessing 2 months a pretty small sample size to mean anything, especially with something as high variance as day trading. I know winning poker players (1 million+ hand sample size) who have had 15k hand losing streaks. I'm sure you already know that you need to be rolled for inevitable swings though heh. Looking forward to updates

Here's my recommendation. I went with a Quad core to beef up the processing power, sounds like you might have some multi-threaded apps which could well use the multiple cores. I also went for 2 separate video cards, and dual DVI 4670 to run monitors 2 & 3, and a 4850 for the Primary monitor/gaming. (it's probably a bit of overkill, but oh well). I added your monitors, case, PSu, etc. I did go with a Gigabyte motherboard in this setup. Right now, it's got a $40 discount with the Quad Core proc.

I went with 2 640GB WD hard drives, they run quiet, and almost as fast as the Raptors, run them in a mirrored array for data security imho.

I've copied and pasted directly from a newegg shopping cart, so I know it looks a bit shoddy:

I vote for a quad-core, personally. I don't know what the consensus is on overclocking this machine, I'm sure it would be very sensitive to errors.

Those two video cards are out of stock. How are these two instead -http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814150316
Those are XFX PVT98GYDLU GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express

Will I be able to run Far Cry 2 and Call of Duty 4 (which I am getting for free from newegg) on medium-high settings? Also will they run on all 3 monitors?

Also I've decided to pick up this processor- Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775

Will all of my stuff fit in my case- LIAN LI PC-65B Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811112040

Should I get an OEM heatsink or stick with the stock? I won't be overclocking.
