1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Highend gaming, internet browsing, Itunes, steam etc.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

Lets say between $1500 & $1700

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Canada, will probebly purchase from Canadacomputers or Tiger Direct both have locations in my city

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

After doing a little research, I am assuming Intel is still on top for processors. Am leaning towards AMD as they seem to be better bang for your buck

6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

I have a 1TB hardrive with all my media that I will be using.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Not much of a computer expert but good chances I will be doing a little bit of overclocking to take full advantage of the 4770k. I don't plan on getting any aftermarket cooling. Nothing too drastic here

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?

22" monitor so probably just 1600 × 1200

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Probably sometime in November unless I should wait until next year? Is there new tech coming anytime soon?

10. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?

Just Windows

I know Newegg has the best prices. It doesn't bother me spending a little extra buying at a local dealer. Also I was thinking of getting it assembled. I could probably do it myself but i'd rather just get it done by someone who knows exactly what there doing. I would just get too frustrated.

As for getting a monitor, I just bought this 22" Samsung LED monitor. I sit pretty close to my desk so any bigger would just put too much strain on my eyes.

Is 16gb overkill for ram? Should I just get 8? I feel like these next gen titles are starting to need utilize more ram.

I would advise against pre built as that usually comes with a high markup. Assembling a computer honestly is not very difficult, provided you just follow a guide. I can second the CPU cooler, very effective upgrade.

8G is plenty. Make sure you get 2x4G and that your mobo has 4 slots for RAM. This way, you can add two more sticks later if you want.

I don't know how much your place charges to assemble, but it's not hard to do yourself. A screwdriver is the most sophisticated tool you need.
Certainly if they charge under $100 and guarantee their work, I'd *consider* it. But certainly don't pay more or let them upsell you.

I defiantly don't see them charging more than $100 as im buying all the parts there, if that were the case I would probably give it a shot doing it myself.

I just built a computer for the first time. Basically, so long as you read the case manual to see which screws are which, watch a few YouTube videos, and apply the thermal paste correctly, you have nothing to worry about.

I don't think you'll need 850 watts for that build. I also agree on buying an aftermarket HSF as it keeps the chip nice and chilly.

@Techhog: Congrats on the successful build! Overclock those parts and come back to us with beast benchmark scores!

A few comments:
- Case: The HAF 912 is a pretty old and tired design at this point. That particular version doesn't even have USB 3.0 front ports. I'd get something a little newer like the Corsair 200R.
- CPU: The i7 is definitely not necessary for gaming. I'd grab the i5 4670K instead.
- Mobo: Crossfire or SLI support isn't needed for a 1080p machine, so you can get a slightly less expensive motherboard like the Z87-K for $125
- PSU: Extreme overkill. A 650W like this Seasonic-built XFX Core is plenty of power for a single-GPU rig.
- GPU: Good
- RAM: 8GB is enough, but even if you want to go for 16GB, you can do better than $170. This Mushkin is $150 at CC.
- SSD : Good
- OS: Good
- HSF: The Hyper 212+ like mjd mentioned is a reasonable choice. Much better than stock.

Thanks. Maybe I will once I get my copy of Windows.

By the way, I'm in favor of actually sticking to 16GB, considering the budget. I get the feeling that 8GB might not be enough for some games in the future.

Alright, I made a few changes.

Case- http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_112&item_id=038223 Cooler Master Storm Enfocer

PSU- http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_443&item_id=054107 Corsair TX750M

Cooling- http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=8_129&item_id=044952 Cooler Master 212 EVO

Can someone confirm this will work with socket 1150?

Gonna stick with 4770k. Looking at benchmarks, there deffiantly is an improvement over the I5 4670.

Still debating weather to save $100 and just go with 8 gigs of ram instead of 16.

In which games, at which settings?

And are you sure that boost isn't due to the slightly higher base clock on the i7?

That power supply is still overkill for a single card. Don't go higher than 650W imo.

If you go with Newegg, make sure to look for CPU+Mobo combos, you may save some extra cash going this route, for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...=Combo.1455389 (FX-8350 and an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX, for $365)

Also, not sure how the rest of the members feel about Win 8 for gaming. Imo, Win 7 64-bit is the way to go...

If I was going with the FX-8350, I would probably pair it with the AsRock Ext4 rather than the Sabertooth:

FX-8350 + AsRock Extreme 4 Combo - $270, almost $100 less.

Has the added advantage of being in-stock
He's in Canada and he wants to buy in-store locally, so neither of those combos are options for him.

Agree with Techhog on the PSU and Essence on the CPU. The difference in gaming performance is miniscule compared to the other things that $105 could buy you.

As for the cooler, yes it will work on Socket 1150. The mounting holes for 1156, 1155, and 1150 are all the same.
