It means that 4K resolution will only work with a 4K capable FM2+ APU. You can still use HDMI for lower than 4K resolutions up to 1200p on your A10-6800K.

Another "derp" moment for me. I just realized that 1920x1200 is a higher res than 1920x1080. Good god. I'm horrible at this.

Got it all put together last night. All fans running at what seem to be normal speeds. Entered the BIOS and noticed that the temp was hovering around 60C, is that normal range for that APU? The case fan and the Proc fan are running fine. In fact with the positioning of the case and fan, the rear exhaust fan is directly above the CPU fan.

ETA: Installed the EasyTune 6 for the mobo. It shows that the current temps are CPU: 25C and System: 32C.

Maybe the BIOS temp reading was off somehow... ?

ETA2: Installed CPUID HWMonitor, it's reading a CPU temp hovering around 45C(115F). That can't be good ..... Opening an app ran the temp up to around 60c(140F). Those numbers seem way too high. And why the huge discrepancy between the two programs?

60C would be abnormally high for an idling APU. 25C is more like it. I'd install HWMonitor and stress test the CPU with Prime95, to see how hot it really gets under load.

Did you check BIOS again to make sure?

Are you quite sure you used thermal paste?

I've always just used what was on the stock HSF. Maybe I should get some and reseat the it. Any suggestions?

ETA: Gonna pick up some from a local PC shop on the way home and see if that helps.

So, TMPIN0 which is CPU temp shows 30C. Can you also post the same screenshot but with Prime95 running Large FFT's

Googling around a bit, the package temp in HWMonitor cannot be trusted for APUs. It would be good to try other programs as well, e.g. HWinfo64, CoreTemp, Aida64. It seems like a rather common problem to get proper, accurate temperature readings for FM2 CPUs.

Perhaps someone who owns an APU, preferably the same 6800K, could chime in

Ok. I'll try that when I get home as well and dropping in some new thermal grease just for good measure.

Home now. Booted directly into BIOS, CPU temp was showing as 39c, then rose to 58c before I shut it down. The System Temp was showing a steady 28c. So I don't know what to believe right now. Going to apply some thermal paste and see if that helps.

Be sure to remove any old thermal compound first.

I did. Removed the little bit that was on there from the stock, using Isopropyl Alcohol. Let it sit a few minutes to make sure it dried well. Applied a "pea sized" dab in the middle of the CPU, seated my HSF and plugged the fan in. Booted to BIOS and it ran up to 60c!! Let it finish booting to Windows, checked the monitor real quick and it shot up to 80c!! Immediate shutdown by me.

I don't get it. What the hell is wrong with this thing? Either the temp isn't reporting correctly, or it's a bad CPU?

This makes no sense. Running Prime95 with Large (whatevers). HWMonitor shows it hovering around 90c - 100c, AMD Overdrive(recommended on Toms Hardware) started at 65c-70c with just Overdrive running, then when Prime started the temp plummetted to 20c !!! As also recommended on Tom's, I did the finger-test. The case is open and I put my finger to the HS on all 4 sides, it's warm but not hot at all. I would think at the temp's being reported I would not be able to touch the HS without coming away with a burning nub.

At this moment, I am still running Prime, both CPU monitors are running and am typing this up as we speak. I have scoured the web and can't find any solid information on what is going on. I can't even find anything on AMD's own website.

I just don't know what to believe. Let it go and assume that the monitors just don't know how to accurately read temps for an APU?

That's kinda what I was starting to think. So, since I didn't retrieve my finger with a burnt stub doing the finger-test, I'm going with it's working just fine.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions peoples.
