Hello Anandtech Forums!
I have helped a friend of mine put together some parts for a new pc build as follows.
-Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 2011 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80619i73820
-8 GB Ram G Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL
-ASRock x79 Extreme3 Motherboard BIOS 1.50
-2x XFX HD-685X-ZCFC Radeon HD 6850 1GB
-OCZ Vertex 3 VTX3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
-Antec High Current Gamer 750W PSU
Everything came together just fine, we installed Windows 7 Home Premium on the Solid State Drive which booted just fine.
We installed all the most up to date drivers and BIOS from the internet at each manufacturer's respective sites.
Once we got to running games, we came across the most ambiguous error of them all, system freezes. No BSODs, no errors, nothing but silence and a screenshot.
So far we've done the following to debug the issue
Software side:
Ran CCleaner to clean registry
Used msconfig to disable programs/services
Hardware side:
RAM test - memtest86+
I only looked at what was going on with GPUZ and CPUZ to make sure everything checked out ok. One possible concern was a FSBUS : DRAM ratio of 1:12.
I'm looking for any other ideas about getting to the bottom of this issue.
Thanks a lot!
