I have been getting parts together for a comp i am going to build. I was thinking about doing an order now for the things that are already out. Then jump on the mobo(thinking Gigabyte)/SB processor(thinking 2600) when it comes out. Here are the parts i was looking at. Please look over and see if it looks good.

ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM

Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

ASUS VH236HL-P Black 23" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen Full HD 1080P LCD Monitor w/height & swivel adjustment

SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 ...

Logitech S-220 17 Watts 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System - OEM

Logitech 920-000914 Black USB Wired Ultra-thin Illuminated Keyboard

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM

Are there going to be any more video card updates before SB?
Is the power supply overkill? Also is it advisable to get good thermal paste and do the processors come with any? I don't really plan on overclocking.....at lease not right away. Also do you need to get the K version to do any overclocking? Or is it just less.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

23" monitor? Why skimp on that when 27" is in the $300 range?

Get your savings from dropping to a 6850:

Promo Code: HARDOCP1215A

$155 is pretty damned good. Promo ends today, though.

Your case combos with Win 7 for $10 off and it's a good price for that case.

Your DVD and RAM choices are good. That PSU is a little overpriced right now. Earthwatts 650W can be had for $60 AR, and for a Sandy + 6850 build you could go the Earthwatts 380W for $30 after rebate without any trouble. (A x58 130W TDP i7 + 6850 rig only uses 290W in Furmark. 270W in Crysis)

1TB Spinpoint F3 is $60 at Superbiiz

Thanks for the combo tip. Love saving money. Does anyone know if the 6850/6870 will fit in the case i picked? I have been reading about the cards and they look huge.....have not been able to find dimensions anywhere. Do the different brands vary in size?

I missed the deal on the 6850 does this seem good st $180
GIGABYTE GV-R685D5-1GD Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with ...

I think a 23in will be fine for me. I'm moving up from a 19 in laptop screen so it should feel huge.

So would getting a 550w power supply be enough with some future proofing?

Also does anyone know of a cheaper good ultra thin(laptop style) keyboard. $80 feels like too much for a keyboard....but it seems like the only good laptop style.

Looks fine to me, though I would say to get the Samsung F3 instead of the WD Black solely for cost reasons. The 6870 should fit in into the Three Hundred without trouble.

The most important thing is to wait until SB actually comes out to buy those parts. You don't want to be stuck outside of the return window for anything.

Hey man,

My gigabyte 6850 is about 9 inches in length. It's a surprisingly large card for a mid-level GPU. However, both the 6850 or 6870 will fit into the Antec 300, no sweat. That case can hold all but the most ridiculous GPUs.

I'd say go with the Sapphire or ASUS 6850. My Gigabyte 6850 defaults its fans to 70% and does not overclock particularly well (though I might have just gotten a dud). The fans can be set lower in catalyst control center, but they blaze when you boot the computer up. I find it irritating. It runs reasonably cool, however, though not as cool as my GTX 460s.

There is also a nice deal on the Sapphire 6870 and the HIS 6870. Check the listings http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...n=6870&x=0&y=0
