So here it is:
E6750
P35-DS3R
2x1gb Corsair XMS2 ddr2 800

I can't install windows; xp sp2 or vista. I get a BSOD during installation (mostly towards the end). This is the first time it ever happens to me.

SMART is disabled in bios by default, should I enable it?

Hold off on all the details.
We don't need that much information dumped on us.

LOL.

Without knowing too much about the system, make sure that you set the RAM voltage manually in BIOS to 2.1V, RAM frequency to 800, and timings to either 5-5-5-15 2T, or 4-4-4-12 2T (look at the RAM label/packaging).

And might as well enable SMART now, although it is not necessary at this stage.

From past experience I would suspect bad memory. I would do a nice long memtest on it. You can boot from a floppy.

What details do you guys want?

Tried installing xp again, at 13% I get and error setup cannot read file "dvdplay.exe" retry or skip? I chose retry, nothing; chose skip, continued but after a sec gave me BSOD saying: error blah blah... IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

don't know what's up with this, it's a brand new mb, cpu, and ram!!!!!!!

Update: I switched on the computer and it said "Bios auto recovering......", then shut down and powered on, i hear 2 beeps and then nothing on the screen.

Try just 1 stuck of RAM at a time.

Also, what kind of power supply do you have?

Did you set the RAM frequency/timings/VOLTAGE in BIOS...?

No, did change anything.

A friend of mine just told me to change the ram voltage from the default 1.8 to 1.9 by adding +0.1v in bios.

And frequency is to 800 by default.

ultra99,

Set the RAM voltage to 2.1V - that's what your RAM is rated for.

Set the timings as rated on the label - you still didn't tell us what RAM it is. Either 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15 2T. It is VERY important to do it manually.

Can you install Windows now...?

It's Corsair XMS2 6400 (XMS6405v5.1) 5-5-5-12

And their site says it has been "tested at low latencies of 5-5-5-12-T1 at 1.9v"

I dont have RAR at work, so cant watch it now. But...so what if it says it has been tested. YOU need to test it using memtest. Only reason I suggest it is, I had a similar issue, and based on the overwheling response, decided it is likely bad memory.

And it was. Nothing is for sure, but you have to eliminate the obvious issues first

Ok, it may be the ram, but I would like you guys to see the video.
It doesn't even POST, I'm worried that the board went bad too. Maybe because it was Auto-recovering itself and restart several times messed up the bios?

I'll go and try new ram, but later cuz I have to go to a shop, as I don't have spare ram.
Plz help.

We're trying to help, but if we suggest stuff like "try Memtest" then you should try it.

As for it not POSTing now...

Clear the CMOS using the jumper, then unplug the power and walk away from it for an hour or two. I had a Gigabyte DS3 that would magically stop POSTing when fiddling with it, and leaving it unplugged for a while would revive it. Anyways, after it has sat for an hour or two unplugged, then clear CMOS (again for good measure) and reseat everything - RAM, CPU, video card, etc. Then, see if it turns back on. If not, then maybe something died. If so, then run Memtest as suggested.

Don't come back here until you have Memtest results.

Have you seen the video i provided?

I cleared CMOS before and even removed the battery for ~20 min, but nothing changed.

I'll do everything again; now the motherboard is on the table and everything is unplugged and removed, except cpu and fan. I should now just clear CMOS and leave it for 2 hrs, or should I also remove battery?

...and btw, i should unplug before clearing CMOS.

and what do you mean clear CMOS for "good measure"?

Have anyone seen the video yet?

an update: I left my board over night with everything unplugged. Now I turn it on and it STAYS ON, however nothing comes up on the screen. (unlike before when it would stay on for 3 seconds and then power off, then power on automatically. I tried this with one stick of ram, btw.

So any ideas? Am I getting somewhere?

Oh yeah, nothing's warm except the gfx.

I went to a computer shop for the guys to have a look at it and they said the bios is messed up. So basically the board is dead, and I don't know if I can return it because I didn't buy it locally.

Thanks for all the input.
