New build problems

A friend of mine is having some problems assembling a new C2D system and due to his lack of access I thought I would try to pick the collective OCForums minds for help

Major Components in the build:
M-board: Intel DP965LT - http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813121035

CPU: Core 2 Duo 6400 - http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115004

Memory: G.Skill 2GB (2X1GB) Dual Channel DDR2 800 Kit - http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820231098

Hard Drive: Seagate 7200.10 Barracuda 250G 16meg 7200 SATA -http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822148144

Video Card: XFX 7900GS 256meg PCI-E - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150183

Power Supply: CoolerMaster eXtreme Power 600watt - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817171013

Now to the problem...

With the bare essentials assembled - the parts listed above - when the power supply is plugged in and turned on a led light on the motherboard glows green (solid) and the fans on the CPU, GPU, and Power Supply spin up every 5 seconds for a few seconds, then stop, then spin up again, etc. Understand we have not hit the power button on the case, its simply when we plug in the power cord to the power supply then set the supply to the on position this happens.

We have completely disassembled the system and re-assembled it with no discernable 'shorts' noticable. We even pulled the motherboard from the case (since it mounts on an aluminum motherboard tray) and tried with exactly the same results.

I suspect there is a problem with the power supply but frankly have never seen anything quite like this.

Any input would be appreciated- and Thanks! in advance.

Tomorrow I will be testing the system with an older power suppply of mine (Thermaltake 420watt ATX12V Purepower) to test my guess but once again....any input is appreciated.

Your links are broken BTW...
neither of those psus are ideal, but neither should pose a problem either. Uhhh... are you sure you havn't turned the system on?

Links fixed

Since the system cannot be turned on, yep, pretty sure

Thats the kicker. The fans spin up and spin down repeatedly but zero happens when attempting to turn on the computer. It *could* be a bad power switch so we will be testing it with another case this evening. The board was removed from the case so unless there is a short internal to the motherboard or power supply I dont think its a short....but what it may be has me baffled.

Once again for clarity...

Symptoms -

1. Unable to power up the system, nothing happens when the power switch is pushed

2. The system fans - CPU, Video Card, and Power supply - all repeatedly spin up and down at the same time. The 'spin up' lasts for 2-3 seconds, the fans come to rest for 2-3 seconds, then the loop repeats.

Check to make sure everything... EVERYTHING is plugged in and properly plugged in. Maybe you didn't wire the pwr switch correctly?
Do the fans spin when you press the pwr switch, or when it's plugged in?

Thanks for the assistance! It turns out it was indeed the power supply after all was said and done. The good news being I think my friend can now disassemble and reassemble his computer in the dark while blindfolded due to the variations we tried in an attempt to localize the problem

Thanks again for your help and Happy Holidays!

I'm having the EXACT same issue. Can you please elaborate on what solved your issue? You mentioned the power supply, did you get a bigger PSU?
