I just built an new setup and I swear the temps are too high..

Gigabyte z77x-ud5h
I7-3770K (STOCK SETTINGS, NOT OVERCLOCKED)
H100 Cooler
GTX680
Corsair 2x8 gigs of ram = 16
Corsair 650D (currently with the side off for more airflow, in the top I have the radiator installed with the two fans blowing AIR OUT of the case...
seasonic 750 gold power supply
1x samsung 830 SSD 256GB
......................................
My temps are accordign to Coretemp 1.0 RC3
Tj. Max 105c
core 0 = Temp Reading 36c, min 29c, max 41c, load 4%
core 1 = Temp Reading 36c, min 31c, max 46c, load 2%
core 2 = Temp Reading 36c, min 31c, max 44c, load 2%
core 3 = Temp Reading 36c, min 31c, max 45c, load 1%

Under load... using linX
core 0 = Temp Reading 58-66c, min 29c, max 41c, load 100%
core 1 = Temp Reading 64-74c, min 31c, max 46c, load 100%
core 2 = Temp Reading 69c, min 31c, max 44c, load 100%
core 3 = Temp Reading 59c, min 31c, max 45c, load 100%
-----------------------------------------------------------

Is this too high... maybe I need to change out the stock fans, they really kinda suck.. I can barely feel any air moving...but I also took both sides of the case off....

Or is there a break in period I should wait while the h100 thermal paste sits in?? was going to attempt to overclock it but with temps already this high....kinda worried...

I'm still a noob at overclocking, back in the day when I built my xeon I dabbled, but I returned it to stock.. with this one I was hoping to actually really overclock it to at least 4.2 to 4.3...

any suggestions..

Seems high at stock, maybe one side of the block isn't making good contact with the cpu?

ok I redid the mounting and when I pulled the corsair OFF the chip there was a whole dime size section without ANY PASTE.... I also noticed while remounting that the bracket on the back was loose.. I had to slightly bend the X-shape back and then screw it back down inorder to make sure it didn't wobble.. I then cleaned off the old paste with alcohol from both the Corsair mounting block and the chip. I then followed that with 100% Acetone to completely clean off the chip/mounting block/copper. I applied some artic silver 5 I had laying around and remounted the block screwing it down in an X like pattern. I also have left the Corsair h100 with the fans maxxed out (all three lights on the mount activated)

Here are my current temps with LinX. Is this a good starting point BEFORE trying to overclock this chip.

Any suggestions..

Still seems high for an H100... My i7 920 @ stock with a D14 runs 40c idle 65c load but I have my case and cpu fans at 4-5v. This is in a fairly hot room.

Are you running the H100 at high pump and fans, is there good airflow going in to the case?

I have the corsair set to high.. my case is currently OPEN on both sides allowing for MAX air flow until I can figure this out...

IDLE:
the cores Range from 29 - 35 now they switch in from 29 to 31 to 35/36 and then back to 29...lol..

guess I need a little more air flow...

Anyone with some suggestions for some KICK A.$.$. replacement fans for the H100 cooler/ case fans... the sizes i would need are 120mm, and 200mm

thanks

ok i switched my fans to the top and ordered new fans, but until they come in here is the setup

Case
Fan (pushing out of the case, pulling air THROUGH the radiator)
Radiator

I ran PRIME95 64 bit for about 1.5 hours and these are currently my temps

do these temps look good for STOCK settings, because I want to overclock it??

The biggest thing that jumps out at me is the variance between Core 0 and Core 1 in the last screenshot I saw (where you had Prime 95 running 1.5 hours).

While Cores 1/2 run hotter on my 3570K the variance from 0/3 is relatively small for me. I have seen a lot of discussion on IB core variance so maybe yours is more normal than mine. You did mention a problem with your mounting or a bracket.

When I removed the H100 I was using the factory paste was like you described. Part of the lid wasn't even covered. The H80 I had on a previous cpu didn't have that issue when I removed it. Currently I moved to a custom loop simply because I never played with WC much and have wanted to.

I do believe you can bring temps down a bit with better fans. It won't likely be a huge amount... a few degrees C.. ymmv there.

Just my opinion/personal experience...

thanks I was reading somewhere the the variance on core 0 is due to the built in video portion which is next to core 0. If your not using it, it acts like a heatsink or the built in heatsink (something like that) allows it to be cooler..... that was just something I came across..not exactly sure where
