Total: 5385 USD + S/H

So that's still more than I'd like to spend - Really, I'd like to knock the price down to around 4k. The main spending that I don't think is doing much good for the setup is the monitor. It's huge, sure, but it seems like a 19 or a 20" monitor with faster response times would be a better pick, and almost 1k cheaper, which would go a very long way towards knocking the price down. If I knocked the price down enough, I could add another HDD or two, which would also be nice. 320GB is a lot, but knowing me, it won't last too long.

Other thoughts?

Thanks for the look,
Ruff

get a 20"/24" monitor instead...30" is too big IMO. also, you dont need winxp 64 bit edition. many applications/games dont work with it, so stick with the regular xp pro/xp mce

dont really know much about watercooling, so im guessing the things you picked are fine.

will you be overclocking? you can drop that ram down to some ddr2-800 (still 2x1GB though) to save some money...you can spend 20 bucks more and get the same seagate drive (7200.10) but 400GB if you wanted.

also, why the need for quad core?

For one, don't waste your money on that RAM. Any decent kit of DDR2 - 800 will give you just as good performance, the waterblocks on the RAM don't help AT ALL, and you'll save 300 bucks besides. Personally, I wouldn't get the QX6700 unless I was really serious about Folding or some other DC project - you're certainly not going to see the improvements in games. If you still REALLY want quad - core, the QX6600 is now out and costs $400 less. Also, you can save at least 100 bucks on a case - switch to the Lian Li G70.

As for the cooling, you only need one bottle of FluidXP (it does need to be diluted first), and I wouldn't get the radbox since you'll probably better off cutting the top of the case for the radiator (so you'll need a radgrill instead.) With the case I recommend, it's easy to mount the PSU in the bottom so there will be room. I agree that you should go down to a 24" monitor at least. Use some of the money you save to get more and bigger hard drives.

I do a lot of F@H, but it's not exactly my primary focus in a computer; so I suppose I should just stick with the dual-core. As for the ram - eh, I suppose so, and I suppose it's a little pricey.

So general verdict seems to be - Smaller monitor, standard ram, different proc.

In these three areas, what do you all have to recommend?

If you were going to spend over 5g on a new system I'd just get the Dell XPS 710 H2C. Its a rather nice system, for a Dell.

BenQ FP241W Black 24" 16ms (6ms GTG)
HP LP2465 Carbonite-Black 24" 6 ms
Acer AL2423Wdr Silver/Black 24" 6ms GTG

I'd consider going for 4GB ram. Its coming, you all know we'll need it with Vista and you want to crank Crysis or have all that eye candy turned on. As for brands, G.Skill, TeamXstream, or Crucial are the ones I'd pick first for good OC'ers. But the model is very important.

A single 320g HD seems kind of like a downer to. A 74g Raptor for your Windows install and the 320g for storage\apps always works nicely. A raid setup would also be a solid step towards monster powerhouse system that your looking for.

As for the processor... hopefully you want to OC. If so, there is really no reason not to just get an E6400 and crank it up to 3.2-3.4 and call it a day. You could spend more on an E6700 and if you get a lucky chip might hit 3.6+ stable on water. But its not really worth it as far as performance gains. Intel is also supposed to slash prices on the high end C2D's soon I think, so I'd wait for that if you don't want to OC.

I've already got an effective HT setup, that I think I used many of your recommendations on, actually.

So no need for HT here.
