But I finally put it all together....thanks to a lot of suggestions from this forum and elsewhere.

First Picture

Second picture

Coolermaster Wavemaster (Easy to work with, put the blowhole on the top instead of the USB/Sound, etc little box thing)
Asus AVE-E Deluxe (probably would not go with again)
AMD 4000+ San Diego
EVGA 7800GTX
2 gigs corsair valueselect ram
74 Gig WD Raptor (just because I wanted one, but if I ever build a system again, I will go with a cheaper drive...)
onboard sound for now
Hyper Type-R 580 W power supply
Themalright XP-90 w/coolermaster LED fan
NEC DVD burner

Turned on - about to boot

Originally had a thermaltake 480 Silent Purepower PSU (only 18 amps on the 12v rail). BUT when I installed everything and tried to use a graphics intensive program such as Battlefield 2, it would load up the game and then reboot. So I installed a Hyper Type-R 580W power supply instead and now everything works fine

I originally went with a panaflo 80mm fan but it didn't register on any fan plugs on my MB for some reason. So I swapped out all the visible fans for sleeved coolermaster fans from performance PC's.

Added a 12 inch cold cathode tube on the right rear case pillar, which fit nicely.

Turned on and booted up

Close up of wiring

Closer to inside

Next addition for christmas:
1) Flexiglow Black Wired Game Pad
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817114134
2) Logitech MX518 mouse (or I'll go with their new laser mouse that's coming out soon)
3) Some kind of sound card (waiting for audigy price drops around christmas)
4) TV Tuner so I can record some TV

Then after that for my birthday I'll grab a big monitor...at least a 24" Dell. Something to really annoy the wife.

Performance is incredible, but I would like to trade in the MB and get something more feature-rich. The Asus stuff that came with mine really doesn't do much that's interesting. Maybe if they come out with a 939 MB with integrated TV tuner or something...plus I'd like to have more HD space...going to start storing movies and TV shows and so on.

Those lights are pretty darn bright.... Nice setup though, I like the case/light colors.

Yeah the lights are pretty bright. But they're facing a file cabinet to the left, so it's not bugging me at all.

I was going for a silver/blue theme.

Next computer I put together I'm going to go with a white/silver. Going to get a nice case, strip it and paint it. I just have to A) learn how to prepare a case to be painted and B) Learn which paints to use on such a material and C) learn how to paint and learn what to paint with.

I think a pure white case would be pretty interesting looking.

To be honest, I got the Hiper PSU for its looks. It's the blue one and went with the silver/blue color scheme. The modular wire connects feel as well-made as the Wavemaster case. It really looks nice: blue, with silver LED fans. Mostly what I was concerned about was having enough 12V to run the 7800GTX, which was slamming its mighty fist down the throat of the Thermaltake 480W PSU.

I cannot be held responsible for Hiper's naming.

The wires for the Hiper are stiff. Hard to bend. And since they are sleeved and look nice, and weren't in the way of any airflow, I was happy.

As for performance, I've got BF2 as the only game on there, but I'm running it at the highest resolution I can with the highest AA. Smooth, oh so smooth.

Nicely done.

Ps: are you sure you want to keep a magnet on the top of your rig?

If you're talking about that incredibly weak speaker, don't worry about it.

Yeah it's just the base dell speaker from like 3 years ago. Doesn't even have a subwoofer.

But honestly, I've never been able to tell the difference between speakers much. Just don't have the ear for it.

Its setting on an aluminum case, so it wouldnt matter anyway, would it?

Well, lets just say that you'd have to have a serious magnet near your equipment to have any affect on it. (excluding a CRT monitor)

Just out of curiosity, could you expound on that? Is it because there is already a strong electrical field in play? Or because of some sort of magnetic shielding? Diamagnetic case?

I'm saying that there's not really much that's affected by magnetic fields in a computer. Harddrives... but those aren't going to get wiped unless you put a really strong magnet right on it. Magnetic field intensity reduces as a square function with distance, so by the time you're outside your case, it's not going to be a big deal.

Accoring to ribbon13, he's used this in close proximity to his comptuer without issues.

Yeah I found an interesting article at PC World about the magnet myth. Thanks for the other link, and my apologies for going off topic.

It was pretty on topic. Looking out for other members

(This magnet thing has been asked several times before so there are lots of people out there that think a speaker will kill your computer too)

a buddy of mine has some electro-magnets that are used as locks. i don't know much about them, but i guess they are rated at 2000# of holding strength when plugged in. one day when we get bored, we will use some old hdds and see what happens when these magnets are energized near or on the hdds

I'd imagine that's pretty close to the field strength of the degaussers the feds use to wipe hdds. I'd love to be around for that experiment. Lucky dog.
