So I just got my parts from newegg and I installed the power supply (Corsair 650W) into the case (Antec P182). Installed the mobo (Gigabyte EP45-DS3L), CPU (E8400) and 4 GB memory (Mushkin DDR2-800 (PC 6400). Hit the power button and nothing happened. I thought maybe I had put the power switch connector in backward, so I switched it, but still nothing. The power supply is definitely in on the position. Any other ideas on what I could check? Is it possible the screws on the mobo are shorting it or something? How would I go about checking that?

Thanks in advance for any help you can pass along.

Start from scratch. Also check to see if the power button plug from the case is plugged into the correct slot in the motherboard. I put it one slot over and that was my only problem lol.

Yes, a possibility. That's why I always test the motherboard/CPU/RAM/PSU/video outside the case and with a PC speaker hooked up.

Also, did you hook up the 4 or 8 pin +12v plug to the motherboard? If an 8 pin, would be a solid block or a 4+4. If you are shoehorning a 6+2 8 pin into the motherboard... :frown:

It appears to be a 4 pin +12V on the mobo. The only cable from the power supply is indeed a 4+4. I just plugged in one of them. Is the 6+2 you're talking about the PCI-E plug?

I have that case and I believe the same PSU as you. Is it the

Corsair 650TX

I for one have now tried modular and non modular. WOW i hate non modular( what this PSU is lol)

I ended up not using the PSU cage because it wouldn't fit around the PSU. I just used the four screws that came with the PSU to secure it and that's plenty.

IMO the case is fairly cramped when it comes to wiring. Did you plug in all the correct power connectors?

Did you try reseating the ram? The last computer I built, it wouldn't even boot because I had put the ram carelessly into the wrong slots ( put it in slot 4 instead of slot 3)

Let us know what happens.

No fans or any response at all?

Couple of "duh" things -- make sure the on/off (--/O) switch on the PSU is on and make sure the switch between 115V/230V is set to 115V. Make sure the motherboard plugs are both securely inserted, I've had one system that wouldn't boot because the 24-pin plug was 1/16" out of the socket on one side.

Then try shorting the power switch pins (use a cdrom jumper or something like that--I like the ones with the longer tabs on them) and see if anything at all happens. If nothing at all, could be a bad PSU (possible to test on another system?).
