I finally got all the parts for the new build and nothing will post.
Asus a8n-sli premium
6600gt
corsair 512 ram (1gb total)
opteron 148
The system will power up, but will not get anything on the monitor. The only beeps I will get is when I remove all the ram. I get one long and two short beeps which means no ram present. If I removed the cpu or video card the system will turn on but no beeps. I tried one stick of ram in each of the memory slots, A1 and B1 and the system will sit there and nothing shows up on the monitor.
I called Asus and they said its one of three things, the board isn't grounded, the cpu is bad or the memory controller on the mb is bad. I can rule out the grounding since my old system used the old case and never had a problem for the past year. Can't test the cpu in another mb since everyone I know has intel or they don't have a 939 pin mb. I think its the board since if there is no cpu present I should be getting a beep but it doesn't happen. Any ideas?
UPDATE I went to best buy and bought a stick of PNY 2700, 256 MB. The computer actually boots up with the stick of PNY. The kicker is that I can also use the Corsair memory in the board at the same time. If I remove the PNY then it will not post. Anyone know why?
