U R welcome. That just in this thread, I went from size 2 to size zero not entirely yr fault.

You know, if you get ALL the specifics of that compatible Crucial RAM, you might find compatible for better price on ebay. Unless you do not wanna take a chance or take the time to delve there....which I would understand.

Also nice to patronize/support real deal companies when we can.

I just double checked, and there is a 2nd Crucial memory Kit of 8Gb as well.
(When I first did it, I did not notice the option to click and see ALL compatible devices, there were a few others as well, but they were all less than 8Gbs, so I left them out of this quote).
Presumably the fastest (1600) one at the top, as in my original post, is probably the best to go for, as if you put it into another computer later, it is a faster 1600, rather than the slower 1333 (although the CAS latency changes as well).

Well "the circus" is not uncommon part of life, yes? Meaning, circus=impediments.

But is also true, clowns creep a LOT of us out.:sneaky:

I think you did really well in this old/new amalgam build, and the glass is more than half full.

I jus emailed Buckingham palace. I nominated U for knighthood.

Yea that would be good, as it would allow them to run at half speed of 800 and this allows for a very easy overclock of that processor to 3.2ghz with a synchronized timings between the ram and CPU. I had this chip running at 3.2 for a few years in the old machine. Nice catch.

Yes, the "old" core 2 duos were often amazingly overclockable, and yet relatively cheap, and with no horrible (as in much more expensive than e.g. I3's) 'K' versions to buy, along with the Z77 expensive motherboards, etc.

Indeed. I know. My now backup Optiplex---I first choose the chip when hunting on ebay---that Opti is now in a closet, has the amazing Presler chip! P D @3.40.....that's without overclocking.

I still love that still perfect system I upgraded when it arrived but I just finally needed faster, was all. That is how it works with me re my Optis. So I got faster! Huge difference between the benchmarks re the Presler chip and this Lynnfield i7.

My dream Opti....the new 2010---I would only get one with the i7 4770 Haswell.....still over $800 even on ebay. But they come down over time.

I would not want the 4770K.....cause again, I am not into overclocking. I run everything at stock speeds.

I will have to run some benchmarks to see, but what are your thoughts on running the memory at 1200 with a 3 to 1 divider on the cpu for the same 3.2 ghz overclock. Not sure if this would be faster than the 800 mhz and 2 to 1 divider...

I'm not sure (it's a long time since I overclocked core 2 duos, but I still use them), but others might know ...

But it sounds like it's worth trying (as you may well know, sometimes particular memory options are DISABLED by Intel, unless you get the top/extreme chip, if I recall correctly, as regards core 2 duo).

I still have a lot of fondness for the core 2 duos, they were a massive technical improvement at the time, and still make viable computers, even if not overclocked.
