The other day i downloaded a 1080p movie to my computer, which is running a 7800gt, AMD 3700+ single core, and 2 gigs of ram. It chugged a bit on the BlueRay rip. I've never liked MKVs.

Any way, its time for a new rig, and ive picked out 4 parts. I would ask you all to scrutinize my choices and let me know if i can tweak any thing to get higher performance for the same for less money. Memory and CPU i am VERY open to suggestions on assumeing We are talking Intel parts. I am not doing ATI/AMD this time around. Any input at all is appriciated! Also, i have a 500 watt PSU i would like to delay upgradeing. Can i get away with it?

Save $80 with a e8400 that will be almost just as fast at stock and when overclocked. Or better yet, save $140 with a e7200 if you are overclocking. 3.8ghz vs 4.2ghz won't yield a noticeable difference in real world applications.
If you don't need SLI, go with p35 - preferably Gigabyte ds3l/ds3r
If you are overclocking, get the GSkill ddr2-1000 for $85 (no rebate) for 9x445 or 8x500 = 4ghz, which would require either 900mhz or 1000mhz memory.
For $190, you can get a 8800gts so look for a $140 (after rebate) 8800gt.

What will i gain by going Intel's p35 route instead of going with my trusty Nvidia chipsets? I looked at a few articles that go on about how great the p35 is, but no comparisons to Nvidia. Are there any? To me, a good chipset is worth paying extra for, but it looks as though the P35 chipsets are cheaper. So much the better, if they out perform Nvidia though. Bear in mind i dont plan on OCing any thing if i dont have to.

Linking components instead of pasting details straight into your OP is so last year.

Get rid of the whole "the more it cost the better it is" mentality. P35 chipset motherboards are cheaper because have you less features, not because nVidia chipsets are "better." There's no reason to pay for features you won't be using.

I have had a lot of trouble finding comparisons of the nforce chipset vs the p35. All i turn up on google searches are forums saying Go Intel. I am willing to take your word for it. I was planning on keeping the SLI option around incase the 8800gt did a sudden price drop. I would just buy a second one. Would it be better to get 2 8800 gt's for 300-ish dollars or would i be better served by a 9800gx2 on the p35 board? I saw this question asked a while back, but i think prices were different then.
