Hi I have just finished my new build and have a problem.
when I turned the power on the computer lit up and the fans started OK
The Initial MB setup screen started but only flashed on every five seconds with the prompt "press DEL to enter Bios setup". Nothing happens, the light on the mouse flashes when the setup screen appears then goes off and the keyboard doesn't seem to work, cant get the caps or number lock to stay on. I tried another keyboard but same result. I tried it plugged into USB port and with the adaptor in the keyboard slot.
The MB is brand new in box even tho its a couple of years old now. Its a MSI 925X Neo Platinum. I have not installed anything on the PC yet as I thought you had to get the MB up and running before installing O/S etc. I will be using XP home edition. I had to put a Graphic card in as there was no socket to connect my monitor to on the MB. This is placed in the PCI Express slot and is an NVidia 7200GS. I have 2 x 1gb ram in their respective slots, one in green and one in orange so dual channel is enabled, infact everything has been bought according to spec of MB.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You need to try and "consolidate and eliminate." In other words, try taking the MB out of the case and do a minimal install with one stick of ram. Taking the MB out of the case eliminates the chance of shorting to the case. Ons stick of ram consolidates your potential problem to that stick of ram.

If no go, try the other stick of ram. Be sure to check your manual for the correct placement of just one stick of ram. Make sure both 20 pin and 4 pin power connectors are plugged in on the MB.

Use the KB in PS/2 configuration rather than USB. Begin tapping the del key as soon as you power on.

My apologies if I'm stating the obvious, sometimes the basics get ignored when trying to get new toys running.

Damn same thing. removed the MB from the case tried with one stick of RAM, alternated slots but same result. It does not like a ps2 keyboard, you get nothing on the monitor going via that route.
Set up screen appears for one second then a blank screen for five seconds. Locks will not stay on the keyboard, they go off every five seconds with the screen image. I'm stuck big time and am tempted to grab a hammer !

You say it's been sitting in the box for a few years. Is the CMOS battery still good?

Hi well its been in the box for a couple of years.
I can see the Cmos switch is set to pins 1+2 with 3 unattended but I have no idea where the battery is or how to check it.

if this is a self built unit. get the manual out and look up the CMOS battery info and location in manual.

It's round and shiny.

Circled in red.

You'd need a voltmeter to check it. They're inexpensive and you should be able to pick one up at the corner drugstore. (Just re-read this. I was referring to the battery)

Cheers funny enough I was looking at it earlier on and wondered what it was as the manual doesn't point it out. The guy at my local store will probs check it out for me. Hope this is all it is, I will pop in tomorrow.
