new builder question

8hka+ board, athlon 1.4, radeon 7500, ddr ram, hsf all seems ago accept. I think I got through bios not sure then it says instert disk and hit enter. But when I do it says it cannot find somethings wrong, help!

I can't understand how the system could read from a cd drive without installing the cd drive software, is it able to do this? Also I am not sure but the floppy drive seems to be undetected and the light statys on all the time on the front of the floppy drive is that supposed to do that?

Set your primary boot drive (in the bios) to CDROM. Then put in the Windows CD and start up the computer and you are good to go. The install will begin after the memory check and other detections.

um ok how do I get back to bios menu?

When you first turn the computer on you should get a message that says something like: " Press del to enter setup." You just push whatever key it says and then you can set the options in there.

I think I must have went pas that now it won't go back when I hit delete. Its stuck in the insert disk. oh woops ok I got it back to bios lets see what happens now.

just hit the reset button to restart the 'puter. as soon as you here the beep from the memory test, watch for the message to hit delete to enter BIOS.

darnit well I did that in the bios menu and it still gives me a boot disk failure rrrrrrr I wonder what it is I keep trying do you think I hooked something up wrong I put the cables master to hard drive and slave to the cdrw. I think in the power or advanced manangment setup I changed it to primary boot cd then restarted with windows do I install windows before the software that came with the board? Help! So close yet so far argh!

If the light on your floppy drive stays on, you probably have the floppy cable connected backwards.

What version of windows are you trying to install? Windows ME doesn't come with a bootable CD, so you would need to have already created a boot floppy for it.

if the floppy light is staying on like you said, then the previous poster has it right. Your floppy cable may be connected backwards at one end or the other.

With windows ME you will need to find a windows 95 or 98 computer and make a bootable floppy with CD drivers. For win98 thats easy, just go to Start->Control Panel->Add Remove Software, and select the tab on the far right called "recover" or "boot floppy", or something close to that.

It will cretae a bootable floppy with CD drivers.

For win 95 it just creates a bootable floppy, and it is up to you to hunt down the CD drivers and update the autoexec.bat and config.sys files correctly.
