So my G6 Coupe was rear ended and looks like it will be totaled.

Looking to spend between $20/25K on a new vehicle.

My main decisions comes down to either a well equipped compact car or a not as well equipped mid/full size car. TBH, I'm a bells and whistles kinda guy, but I would like a smoother ride which just isnt possible with smaller cars. That and I'm 6' tall and it can be difficult to find room in compact cars, however current compact cars have improved.

I'm currently leaning toward Honda for their rock solid reliability, but I know Ford and Hyundai both have come a long way in that respect and I'm considering seeing what they have to offer.

^^ All good choices. I'd add the Fusion to the list, the 2.5L is one of the best i4s out there right now, and I've seen some pretty good deals on them. Also Sonata if you can get past the slightly overcooked styling.

No, don't add the Fusion to my list. make your own list. if by good deal you mean given away for free, then sure i'd go for that.

I'm really digging the Accord - the interior is cavernous. I'm a big dude too, and it felt very open and airy.

Screw that. V6 mustang with 300hp ftw. Or a Subaru BRZ if you can find one that's not overpriced.

The new Ford Fusion is fantastic looking. The outgoing (2012) models are also very nice looking cars.
Do you just want point A to point B commuter, or do you want to have fun while driving to? The Focus ST is $25K and it is well optioned and a blast to drive. I'm just under 6' tall and I can fit in it comfortably.

mid-size with bells & whistles at under $25k you can probably get into a nice Sonata SE (or even the turbo). Value, 5 star crash rating, and you're backed by the best warranty. /car salesman.

we were kind of in the same boat... my wife had full intentions on getting into a fully loaded Elantra but noticed the base Sonata was nearly the same price. We picked up a package and wrapped the seats in leather and she loves it for a low price.

v6 Charger w/8-speed transmission. The 2013s boost HP to about 300 from 292 — not enough for me to wish I didn't have a 2012. Car is a big comfy family sedan that looks nice, turns heads and is quick enough not to be a joke. You could probably get a fantastic deal in your price range on a leftover 2012 or a new 2013. Good mileage. A year or two ago I'd laugh at the mention of a Chrysler product. Singing a different tune now, obviously.

We know you automatically hate all domestics.

Fell asleep reading that list

This.

OP, does the car have to be new, or is used/CPO acceptable? $20k-$25k Can get you a mid-sized or full-sized car with all of the bells and whistles, just not with 0 miles.

Fusion is well priced, well reviewed, good safety, praised for styling, and is fuel efficient. Problem?

I'm not saying it's the only choice in the segment, but it's idiotic to leave it out. Just like I'm not a fan of the current Civic, but would advise someone shopping for a compact to at least look at them alongside the other major choices.

Or are you one of those genuises who are like "herp derp, Import > Domestic". That's just as bad as the inbreds who are like "herp derp, Domestic > Import".

Logic is a granular thing. The finer the grain of your logical thinking, the more intelligent a person you are. Company A may have 10 products. 5 of them may be excellent, 2 average, 2 poor, and 1 horrible. Is it logical to say that Company A's products are "awesome" or "crap" as a totality? Of course not.

However, it seems that a disturbing number of people have an illogical approach at best related to this subject, not based in reasonable fact, but rather based in irrational bias.

For example, do you have a valid reason that someone shouldn't consider a Fusion in the midsize segment?

Definitely try the Fusion. Have you considered the Sonata as well? You may be able to get more bells/whistles for your buck with them compared to the usual Japanese offerings, and they are damn good cars to boot.

.

I have driven one of those. whoever hit you did you a huge favor.

I would get an altima or fusion. I have owned hondas. IMHO their 'reliability' is vastly over rated

6' is too tall for a compact? I'm 6'3 and I don't have trouble fitting in anything, including subs. About the only thing you'll probably want to make sure you get is a seat with height adjustment and a tilt column, but that's about everything nowadays.

I'd say your range is a bit too wide. There are tons of cars out there.

What do you want in the way of engine/trans? And define 'smooth ride'...I mean, you're not going to find something with better-than-average handling if it has a really compliant suspension.

In this price range either Hyundai Elantra or Ford Focus. 6' is not that big, you will fit.

IMO both of those are sub-20k cars. I don't get the whole 'buy a focus with lots of electronics for 25k' thing.

Also, I haven't driven an Elantra, but IIRC it's a Kia Forte chassis, and the Focus is now on the Mazda3/Volvo S40/bunch of other stuff platform. Neither is really built for a smooth ride...they're very responsive in the handling department, though.

The Cruze Eco with a 6-speed manual is in your range at a little over $20K. Add another ~$1200 if you don't like manual and want the auto.

For more compact cars, might want to take a look at the Kia Rio or Fiesta.

Some people don't like driving larger cars. It may be because they live in a crowded city, or it may be because they just like nimble cars. In some cases ( like the cruze ECO), it could be because you can't get 42+ mpg in a conventional larger car. That does not mean that they do not want all the electronics and niceties.

Golf TDI. I know a lot of people have had problems with VW, but I very much love mine. I get amazing gas mileage, its comfortable, has more room than it looks, and is surprisingly fun for only having 140HP.
