New Car: Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic?

Looking for a stick shift car. Which one is best?

if ur budget is fairly low, then the civic. if u can go slightly highter, then a civic Si. either way, fvck corollas. plus honda is known for silky shifting

Toyota Corolla is very boring to drive, while the new Civic is an improvement over the previous Civic which was already superior to the Corolla. So, get the Civic. Plus, it looks great in black.

civic is going to be more expensive. check out edmunds.com forums for problems with both cars.

corollas go for 13-15k.

civics are like 15-17k.

Civic, hands down.

And buy a new one, Civics hold their value amazingly well. Why be on the chump end of that paying relatively too much for a used one? That, and the latest generation rocks.

the corolla and sentra both use crappy nonindependent dead beam suspension in the rear. Yes, even the new sentra does. Civic also gets better rated mileage than both

the corolla is probably much cheaper to buy though, it's an old model and more likely to be discounted, the civic is a new one it might still sell for near sticker.

The current Corolla was designed in 2003 & is slated to be replaced with a much nicer model next year I believe, while the Civic for 2006 was a major improvement, so right now the Honda is the way to go... btw I currently drive an '05 Corolla S and while its not a bad car I'd take a new Civic over it.

Edit: Of course I'd take a Mazda 3 over either one of these choices!

By your logic he should get an older civic, as the newer ones use the crappy MacPherson strut setup. Also, a Corvette Z06 must really be a dog, as it uses leaf springs! Obviously I am not making a fair comparison here, but keep in mind suspension tuning can be as important as how it is constructed. That being said, a Corollas suspension tune is definitely on the dull side.

It should also be noted that Corollas used to have fully independent suspensions, but cost-cutting took precedent. That is probably why Honda nixed the SLA suspension on the Civics too, as well as space.

I personally own a 2006 civic, and while I'm not completely happy with the car, it's awesome overall. There are some minor quibbles, such as weird rattles that I have never had in a Honda, poor-performing AC and the stock tires it comes with - they are noisier than anything I have ever driven. Other than that, I love my new civic, so I would recommend it.

actually 7th gen civics almost no one cares to build up for compact car road racing for this reason.

but as my comments relate to this thread, i'm talking only about comparable cars available as new.
