Well I am going to go to Microcenter (and Guitar Center) today. I'm either walking home with the required upgrades -graphics card or a new guitar so lets see what happens. The board I am getting will only have 1 x16 slot on it, so I won't be able to SLI (not that I really want to anyway). I am really debating between the 560 and the 6870. They are similar enough in price and the FPS margin is slim. I think I'd like to try the 3d vision out though, does the 560 support that? Is 3d vision only for video games?

I've seen 1GB 460 for $60 a few times.

You need either a dual gpu card like gtx 590 or sli to run 3d vision unless they just changed it. Plus you need a 120 hz monitor, which I'm guessing you don't have with that 1440x900 thing. Plus the special glasses. Figure about $400-$500 to do 3dvision. And even though AMD's option is cheaper, it sucks and I wouldn't recommend their (current) offering at all.

edit: here's a link, you can get away with a single gpu card but the 120hz monitor and glasses will still set you back $400-$500 all by themselves.

Umm, Newegg, Amazon, Tigerdirect...

Note that its past tense.

I got my EVGA SSC+ for $85 net (850MHz) and I kept the Mafia 2 code. That sale was about a month or two long where most sales are usually short.

Microcenter has terrible prices on graphics cards compared to online retailers. $25-$50 more than what you could get on Newegg without fail.

I had said - (minus) the graphics card. I don't see what's so hard to understand as to why I can't get a new monitor? I REALLY DO NOT HAVE THE SPACE FOR IT. If I had the space I'd get a 23 or 24" 2ms Asus or Viewsonic, but I don't. My desk is cramped, and a solid piece with a spot for the monitor. I don't want to buy a new desk.

Get a 23 or 24 inch LCD and use it in vertical orientation

I can feel your pain about your desk and monitor last month at my old place i was stuck with a 19'' crt that did 1600x1200 and the same desk space issue.

Was able to only fit 20'' 1600x900 monitors and they looked small in comparison to my crt so i stuck it out till this month...

Using a measuring tape perhaps you could fit a 20'' 1600x900 like i could have in my old desk...but idk if a extra 1inch and a higher overall resolution is your deal or if you can or can't afford it.

Cerb can you actually point to some benchmarks that show a GTX460 (or any card 1GB GDDR5 for that matter) running out of VRAM at 1440X900 resolution?

P.S I'm not talking about games that grab all avaliable VRAM I mean show a negative FPS output from lack of onboard memory because i just can't see it happening myself.

EDIT. Spelling
