New card for KOTOR Online?

I'm thinking about joining a buddy of mine in pre-ordering KOTOR but it's been a while since i've played any newer games. Current system is in my sig (except it's no longer OC and has SSD), will my 8800GT be enough to play or should I upgrade to a Radeon 6870 or something else? Budget would be around $150 if I were to upgrade.

You will certainly need to upgrade. Ive got a card you might be interested in as well. a 6800 series I would say would be the bare minimum to actually enjoy playing that game.

Video is not the place to be selling your wares. Stick to FS/FT. And stop reporting posts when people are noting that you're the one breaking the rules.

DVD-ROM drive – 8x speed or better (required for installation from physical editions only) Internet connection required to play.




Please note the bold text, while I doubt you will be running it on max, it should run perfectly fine.

Im not to sure if you guys have even tried the game yet but I have, and he's going to BARELY be running the game with his current card. I know this from FACT. Will the game run? Yea sure it will, will the game run without stuttering/lag/crappy FPS, no.

So please dont negate what Im saying because the company is trying to sell as many copies as they can. The company is not going to come outright and say you need a 6900 series card to enjoy the game because that would kill their sales. 8800 are a dime a dozen now days and if your looking to upgrade a 6800 series will be a huge jump and right in his price range.

Just my two cents, take it as you will.

You have tried the game on low/medium settings on a rig with the same specs as the OP's or have you just tried it on high/ultra on your rig and decided the minimum specs yourself. He has double the recommended specs and while I am a firm believer in companys bending the truth a little when listing minimum specs that would be taking it a little far. 8800gt cards might be a dime a dozen but considering this game is going to be aimed at as broad a range of players as possible including those on 2-3 year old laptops I would safely assume it will run on the OP's setup at least on low if not very likely on medium. This is an online MMO not the new crisis.

I would say med/high settings with a 8800gt. You are right.

This game is scalable to play on just about anything.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think i'll give it a shot with my current setup, and if i'm not happy i'll upgrade at that time. No reason to waste money if I don't need to. I'd be fine with medium settings.

ANd if it runs a little slow just grab a used gtx260 for 75$, I will garuantee max settings with it.

A 6800 series being the bare minimum to enjoy TOR...that's pretty funny. It's an MMO; you could play it on integrated graphics and still enjoy it. It's NOT going to be more taxing than BioWare's other game series Mass Effect and Dragon Age, and I've played them just fine on a 9800 GT (same thing as a 8800 GT). Your graphics card will do just fine.

My buddy is running very close to the same setup as him with the same graphics card yet better just about everything else and it is VERY dificult to play most places. This may be a MMO but this isnt WOW from 6 years ago when the 8800 was released. So please spare me.

Like I said, you can listen to these people who have yet to even touch the game, or listen to the people in the thread who have actually played it.

Better yet, go ahead and grab a BETA code for the open beta weekend and see how horribly the game runs before you waste $60.00.

People lets be serious here, yes to enable all the bling you are going to need a fast card but to play the game almost anything will do. This is a MMO that they are hoping to get 100s of thousands of subscribers too. There is no way in hell it is going to require anything other than a basic gaming rig/reasonable laptop to run on or they are slitting their own throats.

Were you giving it away, stop lying and trying to defend yourself by making ridiculous accusations about me. You are playing a BETA on a BETA server I am quoting manufacturers minimum specs which the OPs setup is roughly twice as fast as. Quote me all you like about my best friends dogs mates buddy has a similar rig and won't run it. This is an MMO and riverhounds setup will destroy it on low/med settings. I don't see anyone else in this thread agreeing with you which explains why you feel the need to report me based on your backwards sense of logic.

You can play the game just fine. Don't let the others make you think you need an upgrade for that game at standard resolutions and such. An HD 68xx is a very nice card but you don't need it for that game. Its not supposed to be a eyecandy monster from what i've seen. Even their recommended specs says an Geforce 7800 will play it. Your 8800 is Much faster than that 7800 card.

you answered yourself here. Only upgrade after the game comes out or when we see real benches. IMO, the 8800gt will be able to play the game.
