I'll start with Cliff's for the attention challenged folks:
1. New carpet installed yesterday in my newly finished basement about 650 sq ft
2. Has 5 "streaks" see pictures below
3. Installer thought I could get a discount or force re-install (off the record)
4. Need a reasonable idea of an appropriate discount to get from store if I keep the carpet as-is.
Worked from home from work yesterday to have carpet installed in my newly finished basement. About 75% through the installation the installer (a contractor of the carpet store) brought me down to show me some streaks in the carpet. He wanted me to be aware that the streaks weren't his seam but a flaw in the carpet. Apparently berber carpet does this sometimes.
When you look close, its a dark colored thread that is lined up perfectly to create a 3-5 foot dark line in the carpet. The streaks look worse in person than they do in the pictures. In fact, I have to search for the actually seam in the carpet and the streaks just pop right out.
I called the store immediately after it was brought to my attention they said to go ahead and let them finish installing and they'll start the claim process (whatever that means). They asked me to send digital pictures. Other than the 25% down payment I don't plan on paying another penny until this is resolved one way or another.
So if I decide to keep it, what is a reasonable adjustment that I can expect the store to offer me?
Pics below, the first 5 pictures of are the two most prominent streaks.
