Anyone else experiencing this? The cd plays fine in the car and in stereo, but when in the cd player on my pc, it stutters and has annoying, random, .1 second gaps. I just bought the cd a few days ago, and am wondering if this is the infamous anti-theft software that we have been hearing about.

Anyone have a work-around for this? Older cd's play just fine, this one does the same thing, no matter what player I use : Winamp, Windows media, Realplayer.

TIA

I agree that it is copy protection. By the way, what CD is it and who makes it? Just wondering. Thanks.

What if u stick it in some form of stero with digital out, and piped it to your computer? Could you pirate it then?

Yeah, that's that copy protection crap. Go to your CDROM properties and unable Digital Playback. It should solve your problem.

If it's determined it is due to the new copy protection and no mention of this was made on the cover/front, I'd return it and say you can't use it. Send a msg to these companies that we as consumers don't want this crap and won't put up with it.

Am not interested in pirating anything. My damn stereo broke today, and the pc is the only thing in the house that sounds decent.

the album is the new Disturbed cd. By...it freaking figures...Time-Warner (aol).

Do the only thing that will stop this madness:

BRING IT BACK AND DEMAND YOUR MONEY BACK. WE should not pay for clearly inferior products. Bertelsmann in Germany tried this last year with the HIM CD, and people first protested, then sued Bertelsmann to Oblivion. The Outcome: Bertelsmann discontinued the copyprotection and rereleased the cd.

Agreed, it is probably one of the new copy-protection mechanisms.

Vote with your wallet. Return the CD and don't by any more with this "feature".

This is one of the first steps toward widespread Digital Rights Management (DRM) and the media companies dreams of eliminating fair use and implementing pay per play/view/read/etc.

Copying a CD does not make you a criminal unless you distribute the copies.

edit: Yet....

And more and more protections are being brought out. NSYNC is the latest guinea pig being used to "test" out these new protections:

from cdrinfo

<< The music industry is now testing different copy protection systems on mass market chart CDs, with copies of NSync's Celebrity on the Zomba label being sold in at least three different versions. Those available in Germany have draconian protection, a slightly weaker system is used on the US disk and there is no protection on the UK version. The only visible clue is small print on the German release which warns "this CD is not playable on computers". Sony will not comment on the NSync disc but a spokesman says: "We continue to test available copy protection technologies, and our goal is to implement copy protection on a broader basis to deter digital piracy >>

And music sales continue to fall despite all these protections. RIAA can make all the excuses in the world, but the main reason is people are tired of being overcharged for music.

Digital Extraction with Nero works with most of these CDs
There are Winamp Plugins that also play the raw Audio data off the IDE/SCSI cables... I had it for a while before I moved to W2K that has this feature built in, cant remember what its called though

You can even make a copy without the encryption, just exclude the data track with the encryption. The weak points of all these systems are that they have to be compatible with all consumer CD Players out there old and new which have no DigitalCrapMissmanagement built in due to the old redbook CD standard (thank god for 80s technology) to which they have to adhere to.
