I had forgotten to check my account to see what they charged me. They charged $6.99! no tax, no shipping. I'm in Louisiana. I got my CD pretty quick too.

The prices seem to have gone back up to bad.

Edit: I have saved a link for a CD I was thinking about getting and the price was up. Even after clicking the link from this post, but after hitting the refresh the prices went back down to 6.99

Still works. I just bought 3 cds.

Now if ALL CDs were priced like this ALL the time, I'm sure CD sales would be much better.

I used to be a BMG member and always ordered when they had special deals similar to this. Every few months they offered deals like buy one get 2 for free or something similar. With S&H I paid on average about $7.50 per CD. I've never had any problems with their CD's. It's the same CD you buy in the stores except they don't have UPC barcodes on them.

Before there was a real internet, I registered for there service back in 1987 or so. I still have all those CD's from them, and they all still play fine. I discontinued the service though, because I hated how they always sent you "member" CD's every month, if you didn't return a card back to them in time.

Do they still have those member CD's sent to you, or is it buy what you want, when you want?

I ordered a couple as a test also. I did notice many CD's "sprinkled in" amongst all the sale priced CD's that were $13.98. No S+H all the way through, but I did notice a "shipping + handling subject to change" line on the last page - we'll see what happens, I guess!

there was another thread about the difference between record club cds and store-bought cds and I think someone said for the most part they are the same, but the artwork may differ slightly, plus you have that BMG code on the back cover. Aside from that they're supposed to be the same for the most part.

You can't return them to retail stores because there's no UPC code, but otherwise, they're the same sound quality, etc. The only bad thing about these deals is that the artists get SCREWED by record club sales*, which is why you can't find all artists and new releases may take months to show up.

* Clubs sales typically pay half royalties and those sold 12-for-a-penny don't get ANY royalty. Absolutely awful for musicians.

I suggest you buy the ones you like for $7 and send $5 to the artist. Total=$12 You both make out, and you'll feel sooooo good about helping to feed the starving celebrities and pop-stars!

You can do it all over the net. Just go to your account about once a month, click on the "Reply to your Featured Selection" link and then click "No, thanks".

It's a little like book clubs, but less so ... they often publish their own versions to take out production cost. Except there's more they can do with books to cheapen them up - materials and printing and paper, etc.
- The music on the discs is going to be the same. It will not and cannot sound any different from the originals (for those who need a clue about digital audio).
- Some might debate whether they are as sturdy as the original releases, hard to say but not likely enough to matter. They are still pressed CDs.
- The printing on the discs and inserts probably won't always be quite as nice.
- The main difference is that they are completely uncollectible - a commodity product. Little resale value. If you do resell them, you might make it clear it's a BMG release.

But none of that will matter for most people, since reselling CDs isn't an issue. And singles and imports are more the issue on collectibles, anyway.

Also, for older albums make sure there isn't a better version around - often the back catalog stuff has bonus tracks, remastered, etc. for some artists.

I do wonder if you'd be better off signing up for the club, if you wanted to get a bunch of discs. The average price per disc can be pretty cheap if you quit after getting the minimum.

Thanks for the post.

why would you buy these cd's when you can just download them from "the internet"?

AHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! were all going to die from the RIAA!!!!!

but seriously, real audio guru's have always been buying cds, its them damn teenagers. This is nice to see, just prepare to see the whole "we sued people and sales when up" attitude that was hinted at previously.
