New Celeron 1.2Ghz.. Will it work for me?

I've got a Celeron 400mhz computer right now, and I just read the post about Intel prices going down up to 55% for a few of their chips. The 1.2Ghz chip sounds like a good upgrade for me for only $103. But will it work on my motherboard? How can I find out...

What motherboard do you have? Is it a Slot-1 based or FC-PGA socket?

I guess it's possible, but I'd bet you'd have to update your BIOS.

Also, it will probably run the "new" 100Mhz bus while yours runs 66Mhz, but many options come along with a simple BIOS update.

it is a Flip chip design and you have a PPGA design chip.

I sure there are more reasons Mobos are cheap now anyhow

hmmmm.. alright... lets think of how he's thinking of this... but it still wouldnt make sense!

see look: the highest celeron w/ a 66mhz bus is the 766, and that's 11.5 x 66mhz.
if you were to change the bus to 100mhz itd be 1150mhz...

but there is no celeron 800 that has 12 x 66mhz = 800, only 8 x 100mhz = 800
if there were a 12 x 66mhz, i would see he could "easily" o/c to 12 x 100mhz = 1200, but....

I think he is referring to the new PIII Tulatin. They come in 1.33 and 1.2 ghz flavors.

A recent article presented rumors that Intel may scale the Celeron up to 1.2GHz on the .13u process, as well as stating that it would supposedly be introduced at $103.00. This processor is rumoured to be released some next year.
I believe that is what he is referring to.

I believe he must have mis-read it or someone mis-quoted it and he is under the impression that it is already available.
