Friend's dad just got a new camera phone.. takes 15 seconds to boot up.

Other friend got a Sony/Ericson phone... 20 second boot up time.

What a waste. I like my old Audiovox. Turn it on and 4 seconds later I can use it.

New phones always seem to crash to and need to be "rebooted"

Just getting too complicated..

But now you can play all kinds of Java games on them, sync them up with outlook/lotus, email on them, go online with them, use bluetooth/IR, and tons of other great features that just werent available even 1 year ago. I love my Siemens S56 and would never want an old POS phone like my parents have that only makes phone calls!

If they keep crashing you can't stop it from rebooting

Cellphones are a lot more complicated than they used to be. It happens. Deal with it

I agree with that, the more features the more likely it is to crash. Also software quality control is worse because of more featues need to be added while keeping the phone cost down. Therefor companies don't have the resources or time to test everything. damn shame

I pray that that's sarcasm. It's HORRIBLY unprofessional to have a phone with all that crap on it. That's the primary reason that I don't have one. I'd never go to a service call with one of those strapped to my belt between the knife and screwdrivers. The tech gods gave us cell phones to use for voice communication and modems. They gave us PDAs and PocketPCs for the rest of that crap.

hehe...my cell phone never crashes, and I never turn it off. Granted, I bought the v70 because I have a PDA for everything else...the phone just looks good, is small, and makes phone calls.

I've had my phone one about once or twice in the last, oh, 2 months!

Just keep it on and charge it up every other night.

It's not just color phones, my Nokia 5165 (yes, i know it's crap) takes like 12 seconds to get to the main screen.

And that is post 1000.

More expensive != better quality. Assuming that both phones are free, I'd choose the simpler phone. All else being equal, if the phones are the same price and one has more "features", then the simpler phone is of higher quality. The only way to match price while including more foo-fah is to sacrifice quality.

Not all of us need all that PDA functionality. I dont' need one also the current ones are either too thick still for me or too bulky to carry with me all the time. I'd also not get much use out of it so not worth the £££ for one.

I have a T68. Great phone imo. Can't remember the last time it crashed on me. Has a nice organiser function where I can do my schedules of important dates. That is about as much a PDA function I will need so no real use for a full pda. I like to carry less things and don't want a big phone. Battery life is GREAT.

My Samsung A530 is great. It's tiny, built very well, perfectly stable, and has incredible battery life. It doesn't have any games or a calculator or anything, but it is feature rich in useful things. Well, things I can see as being useful - personally I've never used some of the stuff - like a planner and voice dialing. It also has mobile web and that Get It Now thing. Using Get It Now, I could get all that extra crap, but it's not worth it to me.

By the way, anyone know if using Mobile Web on my verizon phone uses minute or if there is an extra charge? I have the 400 Minute America's Choice plan. I ask because I have free minutes on nights and weekends, so if it only uses minutes I could start using it. Just to check weather, sports scores, movie times when I'm out.

meh I think having 400 items strapped to your belt looks far less professional (more dorky) than one. Convergence is coming.

Well, i supose if you have no one to talk to then you need a phone with all the fat.

Personaly i use a phone to communicate, not to show off how "kewl" i am.

Err, no. Some of us would rather not carry around a huge PDA. If I can have a cell phone that does all of that stuff for me too, why not? When I would pull out my cell phone to do something like that, it tended to impress customers at work.

My Ericsson T68m and my Nokia 6610 both do not crash, nor do they have horrible boot times. Both also have detailed organizers(particuarlly the T68) and the 6610 supports Java applications, which you can get to do pretty much anything. I'll take current phones over the old ones any day. I've owned the Nokia 8260, 8290, 3390, 6610, Panasonic A210, Siemens M46, Ericson T68m, so its not like I'm limited in my cell phone experience.

having more featuers doesnt make you less cool or less mature or less professional. hell, if we all only used our computers only for the bare necessities we could all get along just fine with pentium 100's. but most of us have fast computers because we like our computers to do all kinds of cool stuff. versatility and functionality are GOOD. and its not because we wanna show off how "kewl" we are.
