Picked up a Moto X Developer Edition (2013) brand new on ebay for $200. Holding on to unlimited data with my kung fu grip for as long as I can.

It feels like such a huge freaking upgrade over my Galaxy Nexus. Had it since launch, mint condition until a few months ago. I decide to take the screen protector off and drop it within a few weeks. Prior to that, not a single drop.

Unlocked, having a hard time flashing a recovery so I can root. Ugh. Don't remember having any problems with the nexus.

I realize I've been living like an animal for the past year. I can't believe the difference, even keeping the nexus as lean as possible, in performance and battery life.

Was able to upgrade my wife to an iPhone 5 from her 4S as well (work upgraded our cell phones, picked up a used one in mint condition on the cheap).

I'm digging the Moto X, but hating the Verizon stuff. Everything is disabled, but I want it gone.

That should be very easy on a dev edition, all it needs is root access which gives you access to delete anything you want. Have you checked XDA?

I had a hard time getting the recovery to flash, not sure what the deal is. Going to have to do some research after work. Bootloader is unlocked.

I enjoyed my Galaxy Nexus while I had it but pretty much any 2013 or newer non-budget phone is going to curbstomp it. I tried to repurpose my Galaxy Nexus for my tech-illiterate parents but its overall performance simply does not hold up well today.

I'm surprised you held onto that as long as you did.

By the time KitKat rolled around, my phone was barely usable from a battery standpoint. To get it smooth required some overclocking and removing enough apps that I wondered why I was bothering with a smartphone if I couldn't do the stuff I wanted.

Nexus 5 now, doing much better.

@sheep @sweenish I can't believe how much I tolerated over the past year. The phone basically lived on the charger while at work, limited actual smartphone stuff, etc.

Honestly even the Moto G would be a good replacement for a gnex

That's the route I went - Galaxy Nexus to Moto X. Except I grabbed the Moto X last December.

It felt like it was already far past the point in time when I should upgrade from the Galaxy Nexus. That phone was great - for a few months. It seemed no amount of tricks or software updates could possibly improve it.

The Moto X has been amazing. You'll be happy!

i had to use my buddies galaxy nexus recently while waiting for my new phone.... its a nice phone but it chugs compared to any 2014 phone... or even a nexus 4.

Can't believe it took you so long to upgrade.

I enjoyed using the Moto X, mostly because of the size but Motorola's nifty features had me seriously wondering weather it's implementation was better that stock Android. The only downside as far as I'm concerned was the camera. Otherwise, it was a well-rounded device that perfectly demonstrated that top of the line specs are always necessary for a good user experience.

May have been too quick to update the phone. Looks like I need to roll back to an earlier version to root. I don't feel like doing that.
