it's funny u bring that up since it took me almost 1.5months to get my stupid nforce running in linux. for some reason, redhat, mandrake, suse all didn't like the stupid nforce card. after tons of manipulation i finally get the graphix working, but the sound and lan are still down. if they have that many ppl as u claim working on linux drivers, they must be the stupidest group of ppl working on it.

my suggestion, if u plan on going to linux, you're 100000000x better off with an ati radeon than a nforce.

LOL. I love that people use their own conjecture as proof.

Anyway, I had the GF3 and 8500 at the same time. After trying them both in the same system, the GF3 was sold. 3dMark was 4k higher and my opinion of gameplay was that the 8500 was much much smoother even at higher resolutions than the GF3.

I owned a GeForce2 GTS, and it was a very nice card until I replaced it with a GeForce3 Ti 500 (and then replaced that with....). Here's the deal, just substitue the word "crappy performance" wherever you see "MX". I'd take any GF2 GTS over a GF4 MX anytime, other factors being equal.

Why Nvidia over ATI? I seriously hate ATI's "you got to install it our way" drivers.

Lastly, I've dealt with Compgeeks, they are in North County San Diego. Never had a problem, but it probably won't ship until the next business day no matter what.

I have a Geforce 2 Pro that recently just pretty much died on me. For 60$, what's the best card to get? ATI/Nvidia, whatever... the ti or the ultra or look for a 7500 radeon or hope for a cheap 8500 radeon?

Prob cheapest 8500 you can find.

Uh, why are we comparing those? GeForce Linux drivers are a much different beast. This deal isn't about nForce products, it's about the GF2's.
