I was just going to say, this movie looks like Blair Witch Manhattan.

Shakey "amateur" camera style? Check
Actors looking into the camera, crying, explaining the peril? Check
Never seeing the seemingly omnipotent evil monster? Check
Stupid teenagers and 20-somethings? Check

There's some potential for suckage in this movie, but I'm holding out hope. It could be great.

there is no potential for suckage, only potential to between great and mind-explodingly awesome. you're just a skeptic. we can take care of that.

and you actually see the monster, very briefly as the tanks and everything are firing (it sneaks behind a building, freaking huge). also, there are rumors that there are small little guys too, much akin to the godzilla babies in the big-budget remake of late 90s fame. I loved that movie, so I know I cannot be disappointed in this movie, because apparently I am alone in thinking the 1997 Godzilla was golden. If that was good, imagine how good a good monster movie can be.
seriously though, I am looking forward to this. I imagine the entire concept and story will be great with Abrams behind it, and the people he has worked with for his Lost and Alias series also helming the project. I personally enjoy the hand-held camera approach, because it really connects you to the characters and also makes you feel right there when done correctly. That's why I loved the Blair Witch movies, although didn't the second one ditch the handheld approach? I can't remember.
Hopefully CGI is up to par though. If not, it couldn't really cause a visual disconnect.

I stay skeptical so I can be pleasantly surprised more often . I actually did like both Blair Witch movies, and no the second one did not have hand-held cams.

When does this movie come out?

Also it seems as though there are more then one type of monster like most of you have mentioned. The scene where the person in the tent is being attacked, also with the tanks shooting at something very large.

Looks good, hopefully it lives up to it.

Yeah I think it'll definitely add to the atmosphere of chaos and being right in the middle of things. The trailer did have a lot of very quick cuts but I'm guessing that's just due to the fact that it's a trailer.

The teaser piqued my interest, but this trailer totally changes my opinion. The small bits of acting that we get to see is atrocious. Horrible.

much better than the first. And increases the fuvor even more!
Yes, lots more fuvor!

my fuvor meter's off the charts.

mine just exploded at the sheer amount of fuvor in this thread

I've got a fuvor, and the only prescription is more Cloverfield!

Where can I get bulk fuvor?

I also liked the 1997 version of Godzilla (although golden is a bit of a stretch) however this movie has tremendous suckage-potential IMO.

I'm still holding out hope because I love a good monster movie, but this new trailer has made me a lot less interested then the original did.

Also I can't help but notice how similar the unseen monsters bellowing roar is to the sound the the swirling black cloud-thing on Lost makes!

I wouldn't put it past JJ. He has an affinity for reusing stock sounds. JJ "created" the cue that you hear behind the title card for Lost.
