Conservatives are so fucking dumb it hurts my brain. They find the most idiotic childish things as really funny when only someone 9 years old or younger should. And these people are adults. It's kinda scary. There are barely any actually funny conservative comedians or content creators because they can only create humor worthy of non fully developed brains when it comes to anything that requires critical thinking. Truckers have important jobs...they are how products get to shelves. Trains carry goods as well, but not to your local store. People who understand this fact should support OTR drivers.

Calling them 'fringe' was probably not wise, due to the political use of it in recent years. But they are a minority. There are not 20 million OTR drivers in Canada (or the US, for that matter). This was just bad optics and PR because of a stupid comment that yeah...blew up in his face.

The comment itself was minimizing their importance to keeping society working, even if they ARE a 'minority' of workers.

I wouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves. How many decades have we been hearing about robots replacing burger flippers, cashiers, etc.? It's happened in very few instances, so I'm not sure I'd count on all semis/lorries on the roads being Teslas within 20 years. Truckers are going to remain in demand longer than that, I think.

We do already have some automated rigs on public roads testing currently, but I've heard speculation that they aren't currently best suited for some scenarios... but 10, 20 years from now? Those scenarios might disappear.

Well they are important right now. And it's honorable labor, like so many other blue collar jobs. Personally I think all truckers should make more money, have more paid vacation, and full benefits. But they hate the party I stand with that is their only shot at getting some of those things because they can't hate immigrants and blacks and gays enough so well, I guess fuck them.

Err Trudeau was referring to the antivaxxers as fringe minority. 90% of Canadian truckers are fully vaccinated. Trucker union has come out against the so called freedom convoy.
