The entire trucking industry will likely be replaced by automation within the next two decades. They are not nearly as 'important' as they think they are.

Honestly I doubt it. Even if the tech becomes ready, the law, and people are not. A Tesla on autopilot (which is not full self driving) ends up in an accident, 100% driver fault, and it's all over international news and everyone is blaming Tesla. No company wants to take on this liability of pushing a product that could potentially kill tons of people.

Though trains would be easier and safer to automate, I'm surprised that's not really done yet. There should be a system where they can send containers on individual cars and they all go where they have to go and there is a tracking system to maximize speed of the entire system. Make the whole thing electric too, potentially using either a 3rd rail (a bit risky for wildlife etc) or an overhead cable system. These would only be needed for part of the route to top up battery.

I also fail to see how calling out a large group of people is a bad thing, just because it's a lot of people. The majority of trumpers in this country support horrific things. I think some of you are just uptight and have no humor. If anything they are making fun of the piss poor way Trudeau is handling this, not really taking offense to it at all - far from snowflake. Trudeau refuses to address his population in a professional way and instead hides and then starts calling them labels that make no sense.

Not really sure how much longer they will be there though, and I think Trudeau is just waiting it out. The city has been calling in tow trucks to remove them but all the tow truck drivers magically have covid, so not sure what the next step is going to be, but I can't see this lasting more than 2 weeks.

I think they accomplished a lot either way as they have united Canada, and the world through this movement. There is a feeling of hope in the air.

Chances are Jan 6 was in fact separate people from the rest of the protest. Think there was a group from Canada ironically. Lot of people show up to this stuff because they want to cause trouble. Does not forgive them though. There are extremists on both sides. Vancouver Canucks protest is another example. Most of the people involved were not even at the game and it probably does not matter who won, they just wanted to cause trouble. It does not reflect all hockey fans.

So far this protest has only seen two arrests, and it was people causing trouble towards the protesters. There's been lot of rumours including people that died but police confirmed it's false. The media is doing everything they can to smear this even if it means lying. They're even trying to say that Russia is involved. It's actually hilarious that they are going that far.

There's also a protest in Alberta where they are blocking major arteries, that one is less talked about and has less support as blocking roads is perhaps going too far. They recently opened the roads now with the promise that the mandates get lifted if not they'll block them again. They have RCMP and even game and fisheries there. Someone joked saying they did not realize Alberta even had that many cops. So yeah that one could maybe get ugly... hopefully not. Not sure what will come of that one. Blocking a road IS illegal while what is going on in Ottawa is not.

There's rumours that there are people who are going to try to go cause trouble in the next few days so not sure what will come of that. The left WANTS it to get bad so they will do everything to try to incite violence. There's already been eggs thrown and other minor stuff like that. The minute it starts to get violent cops have more power to remove them, but as long as it remains a peaceful protest there is not much anyone can do.

Even if they got all their Demands met, which includes the stepping down of certain Politicians, it would not change the Fact that Un-Vaccinated Truckers can not cross the Canada/US Border. This isn't a Protest, it is just a Temper Tantrum at this point that has been hijacked by some Political Opportunists thinking they can Jan 6 the less than 6 month old re-elected Liberal Minority.
