New Comcast Modem, Can't Connect Printer

I was recently upgraded to the Comcast TG1682G gateway. Laptop is hard wired direct into unit. Connection is fast and strong. No other router involved. The existing printer, an HP Deskjet 3050A has previously been trouble free and connected wirelessly to three laptops without issue. But for some reason it will not now connect. Installed the latest HP driver. Pushed the wireless connect button on the printer and it just flashes continually as it tries, unsuccessfully, to connect to the network.

Any suggestions? Is there a known compatability issue? Thank you.

Ok, just clarifying.

Did you set the wireless password on the gateway or is it whatever Comcast set? Does the wireless password have any spaces or symbols? Can you log into the gateway and change the wireless password yourself?

I logged into the gateway and set the passwords on both networks, (it's dual band).
Tried using the WPS button manually, as well as with the gateway software. Just times out and the printer never connects.

Ok good, as long as you have full access. What encryption method did you choose? If it's anything besides WPA2-PSK (AES) then change it to that, otherwise set the N network to WPA (PSK) and see if it will connect.

Encryption is showing as WPAWPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES). Mode is 802.11 g/n. This is on the 2.4GHz network.
The 5 GHz network is the same encryption, but the mode is listed as 802.11 a/n/ac.
I must admit to not knowing what any of this means.

Can you connect the printer to a PC through a wired connection, then enter the printer settings page and configure the wifi connection that way?

I don't have the necessary cable handy. I'll pick one up and probably go with that. But I'm surprised because this have never been needed previously.

Be a man and run a network cable to the printer ;-)

It definitely sounds like it's the new router and not the printer. Although I'm sure you've tried it, sometimes just rebooting the printer & router can clear up some connection problems.

Interesting. Made the switch to the WPA2-PSK (AES). Printer still unable to connect, however.
Do other devices in the household see the wireless and can they connect? Laptops, phones?

You may want to Google the procedure for resetting the printer. That will clear out all the previous settings and put it back to as it was out of the box. It may be a good time to see if there are any firmware updates for the printer too.

Edit: I think your printer is stuck on the wrong subnet to communicate with the Comcast combo unit. I see your printer has a display screen. Find where to clear the settings in the menu and I think your problem will be solved. It's probably on 192.168.x.x and the Comcast combo unit is on 10.10.x.x.

Boomerang, that was it! Cleared the settings in the printer, hit the Connect button and it finally completed the process. Seems like it was stuck searching for an old IP address from the old modem. Anyway, it's working. All three laptops see it and can print to it. It's only 9:30 in the morning, but I'm having a drink! Thanks for all the help, gents. Greatly appreciated!

On an unrelated note, that new Comcast gateway, TG1682G, is the size of a damn car radiator. Sheesh. A Motorola Surfboard is looking good right now. . .

I'm wondering whether you've pressed the button on your printer. If not, then failure occurs.
