Do you know what the total weight of the laptop comes to with the 12 cell battery? Thanks

I had ordered an extra 12 Cell battery option, but I ended up getting two 12 Cell batteries. These are quite heavy to be honest and dramatically increase the weight of the machine. On the other hand, I love the battery life I am getting out of these. At least 7 hrs with everything going, wireless, windows media player at a high volume, screen brightness 3-4. The laptop is not noisy and the fan does come on occasionaly, but only when placed on lap or pillow. It is not a bother at all.

Does anyone have a sleeve for their dv1000/v2000? I'm talking like the Shinza or Powersleeve ones that fit very snugly. My gf's dv1000 will be here soon and she wants to carry it in her backpack. I'm most interesting in hearing about what size sleeve to get. Or if anyone can just measure it for me Thanks!

I was also wondering about sleeves. I saw that someone over at the thumbrocket forum said he used a Shinza sleeve and loved it and then linked to the 12inch one. According to my measurements that won't fit and it seems as if the 15inch has a extra inch in height. Can anyone comment on the Shinza sleeve with this laptop?

looking for a sleeve too...
i'm considering the booq vyper m @ booqbags. anyone have one of these?

other options...
http://www.sfbags.com/products...ecases/sleevecases.htm
all i've read are good things about this sleeve from sfbags, but it gets pricey once you start adding in the options.

http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/cat...ories.t2?categoryId=21
i like my timbuk2 shoulder bag, so i'm guessing the grip sleeve will be great too. it doesn't look like it has a firm exterior though.

the crumpler school hymn looks good, but really don't know anything about it. neat website though.

Hi,

I've had my Presario v2000 since December 17th, 2004 and I've been experiencing problems with my Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG w/ Bluetooth.

Just wondering if anyone else is having problems before I talk to HP Total Care about it.

It started about a week ago and I've done everything that I could think of doing to try and remedy it. I've even contacted Compaq's email support technicians and, although their replies were extremely fast, they were unable to fix the problem.

Basically, I am able to connect to my wireless-G router at 54Mbps, but the speed will randomly drop to speeds such as: 48, 36, 24, 12, 11, 8, 2, and even 1 (all Mbps). The signal strength remains Excellent. Once, I was completely disconnected from the router and unable to reconnect for a while. My transfer speed suffers greatly when the speed drops (even a tiny drop causes websites to stop responding). The speed does return to normal after some time, but it's just an endless cycle of inconsistency.

Anyways, the email technician ended up blaming my router configuration. However, I have a seperate wireless adapter that I am able to plug into my notebook and receive a constant 54Mbps speed using the same router. Also, I get the same problem when I use other wireless networks in my area.

I have installed all the newest drivers. I even rolled back the wireless driver, but results were the same. Finally, I got desperate and reformatted my notebook and I am still having the same results.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Defected hardware? When it's working at full speed, it's working great. I suspect that the speed drops when it gets too hot, but sometimes the notebook can only be on for a few minutes before the speed start to drop.

Since my 30 day return period is over, I am going to play with it a bit more and figure out if external cooling will fix the problem before I look towards my warranty.

Any suggestions on what I can try doing? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

ah heck,
What bag did you end up getting?

I am still waiting on my dv1000 to be shipped. But i want a sleeve and i have checked everywhere. I found lots but they all see a bit to big. By either and inch or so both ways.

Oh yeah. I did check out the dv1000 at Best Buy this weekend and i was pleased with the Briteview screen. It is a bit distracting at the beginning but it did look way better than the regular screens. And i think the light in the store was too bright etc.
Can't wait for my new laptop to come in the mail. Should ship Jan 24th.

Hey JSU,
I had the same problem, but I had it before I got my dv1000 (I was using an old Toshiba). In my case, it was due to the fact that in my neighborhood a bunch of people were using routers set to the same (factory default) channel. I did a "survey" of the networks that were near me, picked an unused channel and got much better performance.

i'm trying to figure out what combo of sleeve & notebook bag i should get. timbuk2s are nice and if you're interested in one, the best deal you'll get on the timbuk2 commute laptop bag is at rei-outlet. they normally go for $100.

if anyone has recommendations, please share.

Let me ask a question, which may be obivous, about bags and sleeves that are thief tippers. I mean, bags that shout, "I got a notebook in me."

As this will be my first really mobile notebook, what kinds of bags should I avoid?

Just a heads up for all prospective buyers:
This is one great notebook. Custom ordered with the following options:
1.6GHz Dothan (Mistake by the dumbass @ BBY, supposed to be 1.7)
256MB (have another 256MB from previous laptop)
40GB
Broadcom wifi (Another mistake by the dumbass @ BBY, supposed to be Intel for better power management)
BrightView screen (Another mistake by the dumbass @ BBY, but its actually pretty nice )
12-cell battery

This is my gf's notebook, a replacement under BBY's service plan for her previous HP laptop. This thing is slick. Got it today and even with only 256MB RAM in it, flew through most of the installs/uninstalls that I did. It only bogged down when I was installing/uninstalling multiple things @ once. Have mis-matched PC2100/PC2700 RAM in there now totalling 512MB, but will be swapping out for both PC2700 2x256MB when the right stick comes in. Overall, very solid built laptop with excellent performance for the price (I think the configured price in-store was $1100, which of course cost us nothing ).
I had it charging the entire time I was working on it and by the end of the night the battery was fully charged. The gf had it on batteries for a few minutes playing on it and with full brightness & wifi on (default Laptop power scheme) and at that point it registered almost 6 hours of batt life remaining. When we lowered the screen brightness to its minimum, Windows indicated almost 8 hours of battery life :Q
BTW, the 12-cell does add a 1/4-1/2" to the bottom of the notebook. THe pictures that someone else linked in here don't do the beast of a battery justice, but it does provide excellent ventilation that way. Definitely get the 12-cell
Anyway, tomorrow we're going over to CompUSA to check out some of their sleeves first hand and if we find any winners, I will write back.

I got a Compaq v2000. The #1 problem (compared to my AMD64) is LOW PERFORMANCE! Damn this thing's slow! Get 512mb RAM at least. Even after overclocking it to 2ghz didn't help its miserable stats.

First, please substantiate your claims before you make such a claim. Is your A64 a desktop or laptop? What are the specs that you put into the V2000? What are your A64's specs? And what in the world are you doing overclocking a laptop? I've only heard of limited success in the first place, not to mention the extra heat dissipation can cause serious problems in any laptop as they are designed to operate to the limits of their factory specs and that is IT.

There is a little wiggle room side to side. You can see that from the diamentions. I have the 12 cell battery so the overall fit is good. I personally love this bag.

Hope that helps.

Hello All,

My first post. I found this Forum a couple of weeks ago and it was very helpful in my decision making process.

I just purchased my DV1000 this week to replace my ailing Toshiba Satellite and it is wonderful!

I have been following the thread regarding the sleeves and thought I would add a link to a product I am considering:

http://www.shorelinecases.com/?page=sho...ry_id=ea267971c6031a3960aece0a59c43e19

I like it because you can leave the laptop inside and carry as needed. Not the most elegant looking one on the market, but I need something like this when I'm traveling and don't want the bother of pulling it in and out to use.

Also like this Ebag although it does not stay in the bag:

Oops, after closer examination those bags are too small. The inside dimensions would not work.

Oh well.
