I checked using the program above. My RAM is running at 133MHz X 2, so 266MHz. It is indeed PC2700 RAM, however.

The dv1000 looks better than the v2000 and the dvd and remote are cool too. the mesh grill over the speakers is nice. It's speakers are also better. it has a glossy black finish around the keyboard and on the arrow keys and blue leds under some that look cool. I work at office depot and plan to get one with about $400 off. we have an hp rep that says better graphics and media center capabilities are being thrown around. regardless i will install windows media center on it and use a usb or pc card adapter. The quickplay can be reinstalled/UPDATED as well and could be reconfigured for video playback from the harddrive. ive seen and played with many of the smaller sony laptops with 10.4,12.1, 14,15 inch screens and i think they suck compared to this hp especially considering the price difference. as for the graphics i will likely never play games on it. why would i when i have an athlon 64 desktop with 1gb ram, raid, 6800gt, 20.1" vp201s, Z-680 speakers, or a hacked xbox with 50 games on it and emulators for many old games(like 300 games) including classic sega and nintendo. my brother got it while in the middle east for $250.

Does that mean there will be independent graphic card or an upgrade to system bus of 333MHz?
If so, I'd rather wait for such a new one

That is why I feel confused~~ They use PC2700 which runs at PC2100~~
Why not set the system bus to 333 rather than 266? The mainboard supports 333mhz~

hi there
i just got my DV 1000 yesterday and am loving it
howver i do have one issue with it and hoping someone can shed some infomation on this

My SD card reader reads my 128 mb card but wont read my 256 mb card (it says it needs to format it but then says it cant). I called HP and they said it was a known issue and a upcoming BIOS update will fix that. Is anyone else having this issue? i want to make sure its not the hardware on my machine

thanks all

i should mention that the rationale HP gave me is that the 128 SD sandisk is 16 bit and the sandisk ultra11 is 32 bit and thats not supported yet and i need to wait for a bios update

Ok after a month with my dv I have to say I love it. The only thing I would not have gotten is the bright view. Hurts my eyes in floresant lighting, the reflective nature of it I feel hurts viewing angle options.

My fan cycles when it is sitting on my lap or on a fabric surface. If it is sitting on a desk it never cycles.

can anybody with the 12-cell comment about heating/fan issues? supposedly the increased angle helps keep the heat down while improving typing angle.

i guess the heating issue is only certain cases. some reviews on thumbrocket mentioned heat as a problem.

Actually, I'm having trouble with any card in my card reader (see previous posts). The hardware is recognized, but I have yet to get a memory card to be recognized. Hopefully the (supposed) BIOS update will help as I don't want to relinquish my notebook to HP for 2 weeks to get fixed if it's just a software update thing.

they fixed the SD card issue - there is a new driver on the HP site called 6-in-1 media which fixed the issue for me

I am about to buy the dv1000, and was wondering if ADP (accidental damage protection thingy) would be worth the money instead of just getting the standard 1 year warranty..... has anyone actually used ADP before with HP?

One more question, for those of you who have already orderd dv1000, did you get the Intel 2200b/g or the Broadcom 54g integrated wireless? They are the same price, and I have no clue which one to get.....is one better than the other?

Thanks

I have a dv

I got adp mainly because I cant afford a new laptop in a year. Also with ADP you get 3 day turnaround which is nice because I need my laptop for school and cant be without for a week or three.

I got the intell B/G as that was all that was offered when I got mine. It gets good signals, in class a lot of people cant get a signal but I get a low signal.

Those with the DV, what kind of life to you get out of the battery? I read one person saying just over 2 hours with the 6cl...which is not impressive for a P M.

Just played with the DV1000 again.

Right side of the keyboard is weird. Why you type the entire right side depresses in a bit. very annoying.

Was that just the beat up demo machine I was using or is it the same on all DV1000's?

Thanks

Purchased a Presario v2000 last night.

Apparently, I snagged a good deal because I can't configure it for the same price today. I got it for a little less than $1023 before tax ($993 w/ mail-in rebate). There was a $100 instant rebate, $30 mail-in rebate, and I purchased it through the Academic Purchase Program so the base price was a bit lower.

Configured to: Pentium-M 1.8GHz, 256MB DDR SDRAM, 60GB 5400RPM HD, DVD/CD-RW Combo, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200GB & Bluetooth, productivity ports, 6 cell battery.

I didn't get the BrightView and I plan on purchasing more RAM through http://www.memorysuppliers.com/. Also, I got XP Home and didn't upgrade the productivity software as I am provided with the XP Pro and Office 2003 cds and keys through a university program.

Expected ship date is December 14. A bit late, but it's probably due to the holiday season.

The same machine configured today priced at about $1237.30 w/o the student discount and $1163.06 w/ the student discount.

Does anyone know of a notebook sleeve that the v2000 fits well in? I imagine it's hard to find a sleeve with the v2000's dimensions having a snug fit.

Well, I hope the v2000 is going to be a good buy. Seems like there are not too many complaints.

Tucano's Second Skin sleeve for the 15" Powerbook fits pretty much perfectly. Picked one up at Fry's for about 30 bucks.

gadgeTT: what screen resolution did you have to set in order to successfully play dvds at 16:9? or is screen res not a factor?

anybody else having problems with the memory card reader?

deejayshakur, while you wait, you may wanna check out gateway's challenger, the m210 line, bestbuy.com carries these 14" widescreen gateways, so you might be able to see it in person. I went to a local one last week but nothing on display.

Btw, I returned the v2000 I bought because my wife can't stand the screen looking so bland, I played around with the color setting and got no where. to HP for the full refund (credited in 5 days to my credit card after I shipped it back), and I don't even have to pay for shipping.
