Hi,
I've had my Presario v2000 since December 17th, 2004 and I've been experiencing problems with my Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG w/ Bluetooth.
Just wondering if anyone else is having problems before I talk to HP Total Care about it.
It started about a week ago and I've done everything that I could think of doing to try and remedy it. I've even contacted Compaq's email support technicians and, although their replies were extremely fast, they were unable to fix the problem.
Basically, I am able to connect to my wireless-G router at 54Mbps, but the speed will randomly drop to speeds such as: 48, 36, 24, 12, 11, 8, 2, and even 1 (all Mbps). The signal strength remains Excellent. Once, I was completely disconnected from the router and unable to reconnect for a while. My transfer speed suffers greatly when the speed drops (even a tiny drop causes websites to stop responding). The speed does return to normal after some time, but it's just an endless cycle of inconsistency.
Anyways, the email technician ended up blaming my router configuration. However, I have a seperate wireless adapter that I am able to plug into my notebook and receive a constant 54Mbps speed using the same router. Also, I get the same problem when I use other wireless networks in my area.
I have installed all the newest drivers. I even rolled back the wireless driver, but results were the same. Finally, I got desperate and reformatted my notebook and I am still having the same results.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Defected hardware? When it's working at full speed, it's working great. I suspect that the speed drops when it gets too hot, but sometimes the notebook can only be on for a few minutes before the speed start to drop.
Since my 30 day return period is over, I am going to play with it a bit more and figure out if external cooling will fix the problem before I look towards my warranty.
Any suggestions on what I can try doing? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
